Default Outlaw Mud Truck?

So I am looking at building a high horsepower mud truck, sand climbing, gravelrama truck, paddles rear and boggers front. Tube chassis, not alot of suspension travel, prob 4 linked, Traxxas Vxl system on 3s, and lightweight 3s batterys,1300-1600mah. I have an old super (or extreme?)blackfoot body. Going to have to buy some Axial scx axles, and a center diff.

Edit
Tube chassis to be built out of .035 x3/16 aluminum tube, and brazed together. ;)

I would shorten and narrow the the paddles to run the same size rims on all four plus it would look more scale. Either way it will be sick and I can't wait for some vid's.

Thanks man, in shopping for an Esc, I came across the Rc4wd sand thrashers, https://store.rc4wd.com/mobile/home.asp?#page-37
Might have to order those. Looking at the HH BRXL 6s potential and waterproof. Or a Mmp, something in the $100-150 range.
Also thinking of running 4 boggers.

Not sure yet, it will be a while before i can have this thing running, I can only spend about $100 a month, aluminum is ordered.
Let me know what you guys think.

This will be a wicked truck! Is the wheelbase as shown in the mockup pics? The Ford front fenders work so well with stretching the wheel opening that they almost look factory. Good Job! Looking forward to the finished rig.

Thanks man, yeah pushing out the front axle out 1/2"to a 10.5" wheelbase, this body is really small. Been thinking it might be fast enough on 2s, we will see.

I've been wanting to do a build like this for a while, around a JConcepts 70's CJ5 body. My plan was to get a pair of 2.2 Boggers, cut-and-shut them to 1.9, then run regular 1.9's on the Front, that way you have the "Tall and short" combo found on 1:1 mud slingers.

For those not in the know, the reason for the smaller front tires vs. the rears is so the fronts are essentially overdriven, therefore helping keep these high-speed mud missles running straight and true. Plus, it helps keep weight down, and most of the time the front tires are barely touching anything anyway.

I'm keeping an eye on this one.

Thankyou Javelin , the 1.9 boggers I have are 3.74" and rc4wd has some 1.55 tires that are 4.13".i might just use that combo, when they get back in stock.
I have been trying to find a use for this body for 2 years now.

I made a belly pan for this thing, waiting for materials, and next payday, to order my axles. It looks like the front links are going to be pretty short. I saw a guy in the foff section used a exo center for his rig, I owe $ 65 on mine, when I pick it up I will see if that will work with mine. Flipped my Eb over to double check axle width, looks like a perfect width to me LMK.

you got it backwards. going to a smaller diameter tire on the front actually has the opposite effect given the same gearing front and rear. your front would be underdriven and the rear would be trying to overtake the front. it'd be squirrely as hell.

finding your rollout is as easy as taking your tire diameter and multiplying it by 3.14. that will give you the amount of distance that tire will cover with one revolition.

My understanding on this is the trucks are geared so the front is dramaticaly overdriven, not only to make up for the lack in tire size, but also for stability.

I ordered my axles tonight, rpp is amazing $70 for 2 axles.

Yup shorter and skinnier tires out front with say 3.73:1 gears and tall & fat paddles or boggers with some serious grooving out back running something around 4.56:1 is normal.

Love the concept, I've been eyeballing my pair of sandpaws thinking of building the same type of rig.

This looks cool, i'd also like to build something like this but i really don't have a place to run it.

The 1:1s run in 100ft-300ft mud pits, scale down to1:10 and you only need 10-30 ft of mud, something that could be set up in a back yard easily.
Do it, build one...

Iam thinking about talking to the owner of my Lhs to see if we could get something set up locally, they are trying to set up some racing programs.

Have you figured out the gearing with the smaller front tires , if you have overdriven front and underdriver rear gears do you still get overdiven front with the smaller front tires. What i mean is have you calculated the tire size and everything?

No not yet.
Initally I think I will run the same size boggers front and rear followed by changing the axle gears then some testing with tire sizes.
