Default How do i make my scaler silent?

Hi all,

Just wondering if you know how to make a scaler completely silent as ive seen it on youtube and i am planning on putting a sound module in my scaler and would preffer it to not have to wirl from the motor and the sound from the gears

Yours sincerely andrew

Motor noise,, I'm not sure about, but gear noise from the pinion and spur are lessened buy having looser gear mesh.. You have to be careful because too loose and you be stripping spurs..

I'd say you will not get it silent. You can lessen the noise in the gears with some types of grease. I forget which vendor on here sells it and the name, but one feature is it quietens noisy gears. Search for it, or check out the vendor section.

I have to ask...did those "silent" scalers in the videos have a music track playing or any sound at all? I find it hard to believe the scalers were totally free of sound.

Good luck in your quest.

EDIT: Rocksmith Engineering Gear Jelly was the grease I mentioned above. Not sure if any RCC vendor sells it or not.

You can turn the microphone off on cameras , that's why they are silent . Impossible , to many moving parts swirling around . Love it , Live it

Yep, unless you want a scale prius, it's pretty much impossible.

Don't know where you would find it, but maybe a belt drive will work in place of gears. Im sure McMaster Carr or someone who deals with robotics would have the pinion / spur / belt combo, then modify to your needs.

Good idea. The tranny's just as loud, so are the diffs tho.

I experimented with a belt drive system. Can't remember suppliers, some judicious googling of companies that make industrial automation parts are a good start. And yes, the trans will be almost completely silent. Your on your own for motor and axles.

64 pitch and/or really loose mesh on your pinion/spur.

Most new brushless setups will not give out a hum like brushed can.

Tell us more about your set-up.

I think you could get it fairly quiet, but not silent.

I have to agree.

Although, I have had many people ask me how I got mine so quiet. On my SCX10 I use traxxas lithium grease for my gears and it is pretty quiet, but not silent. I guess I could use some of that plasti dip or generic line-x type stuff on some parts to reduce some noise but I haven't tried it myself yet.

a good brushless motor will help to reduce noise a well.

I thought my crawlers were loud 'til I picked up my first 4WD racing truck (Losi SCTE). With (basically) 32 pitch gears for the pinion/spur plus three separate gear diffs, it's CRAZY loud!!

Now my crawlers seem much quieter.

My Goat2s brushless is very quiet. If you crawl extra slow it is almost silent. Faster you go, louder it gets.
