Emax trans in scale basher/crawler?

How hard would it be to adapt an Emax trans to a scale general purpose truck? Not a comp rig, just a fun scale truck to crawl and go off roading with. I realise it would add an extra servo, but I am thinking of just getting a complete TQ3 and trans from an Emax, locking the rear TLT axle and doing some kind of limited slip mod to the front, such as plumber's putty. Anybody have any input?

Not too hard, will raise cog which is bad

I haven't gotten around to mounting shifting servo yet.
In last pic cage is just sitting there, not mounted

Is there a buildup thread on your rig anywhere? Specifics? What are your goals for it?

Also, are there any other transmissions to consider?

you can also go this way.

i use both the e-maxx and pede tranny

The Stealth seems to be one coming up in alot of builds. It's strong and light weight.

You could run the maxx trans but you'd be better off taking the slop out by locking it it first gear.

I am really looking to go 2 or 3 speed, it is not strictly a crawler, more of a general basher with solid crawling capabilities. If I can't make an Emax work well, and the three speed is too expensive, I will probably just go Stampede.

ddiaz, your link showed your truck with the Emax tranny... have you run it yet? I want to stay 12.5 wheelbase for regular scale bodies... probably early Bronco or the like.

What about using something like the T Maxx two speed which shifts itself? It would eliminate the extra servo, just don't know how easily it lends itself to an electric motor...

i have not run mine yet, but the axles spin freely. i have my tranny locked in first gear

for a trail rig/ basher yup

crawler.. no

look for my big brother buildup thread.. i used a emaxx tranny in that

Won't work very well. It'd be jumping gears constantly. Then you have the wonder of clutch chatter as well.

hey cody. i got the emaxx tranny i mentioned to you today, ill have pics of it mocked up in a csc1 tomorrow. pm me if you want more info

Tuffguy 07-20-2006 06:48 PM

The differences in first and second gear are not as great as you probaly think.
At least I thought there would be a bigger difference in speeds.
Maybe I was just hoping.
There is a build up of my rig, just not with the emaxx tranny, it was an after thought.

i built a leafsprung tlt with a e-maxx tranny last week and yes the cg is high but having a 2 speed is sweet.
