| So, I don't know if anyone here hangs out on pirate, but there is a guy named Dan Dibble that has a bad *** 4 seater tube buggy. Now, I've got a set of X-factor axles lying around, and a set of trimmed Jumbo Swamp Dawgs. I figure that with a 16" wb, and an oal of 21", my X axles are starting to look pretty scale (tires are too wide, but that doesn't bother me too much) I've got the truck drawn out, now I just need to get some 1/4 tubing and a couple of bottles of mapp. Last edited by diesel72; 07-24-2006 at 01:44 AM. |

| Go for it! If it turned out looking anything like the real life version, it would be frickin sweet. |

| Yeah hulkwerks made the above one for the world crawler build off. But that shouldn't stop you from pursuing such a project. There are tons of scorpions out there. And, from the 1:1 builder's stand point, imitation is the best flattery of all. |

| You could just buy the original from me!(that would not be a challenge though) I have this scale version. The only thing I've changed since the pic above is adding alum. remote res shocks. Last edited by H3RESQ; 07-24-2006 at 05:52 PM. |

| yeah, I already know about that one, but that thing is gonna be small compared to mine. He has txt axles and Maxx swampers, I'm running x-factor axles with either jumbo swampers (cut the same as his) or k-rocks. I'm really aiming for a pretty dam big truck here. Also, I am undecided if I'm gonna skin this chassis or run it bare (where do I get scale diamond plate???) So far, I think that due to the size of this thing (chassis 20" long x 8-10" wide), I can rule out using solid rod: way too heavy by the time I have 20' of it in the chassis. So I want tube, and I'm thinking 1/4" brake line should do it. Maybe some solid rod for the sliders. And yes, the only reason I want to build this is because I sure as hell can't afford to do a 1:1 copy |

You might want to go bigger. This one is 20 inches long 8 inches wide has a wheelbase just under 17 inches and a little over 13 inches on axle/tire width. Oh and I put the bigger tires on it so that I wouldn't ruin the ones he made. Did some temp bump stops and it worked great. Ya I couldn't afford the real one either. iIt weighs in @12 pounds rtr. ITS HEAVY. If you need picks for your build feel free to P.M. me.

Thanks for the offer, I've already bookmarked Dan's photo page (which has a gallery on this toy). However, tell me about your bumpstops. And BTW, is your chassis made from rod or tube? My tires vary from 6.5" (swampers) to 7" K-rocks, the axle/tire width is 18" with K-rocks, so 20-21" wb w/23-24" chassis would probably be more in line. AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! Now I really don't know what to do I could really use Dan's "helpers" right about now Last edited by diesel72; 07-25-2006 at 08:15 AM.

| This is a common trick. Take off the bottom of the shock and slide a piece of Nitro Fuel Line on the shaft. You now have a bump stop. This rig is solid stock. Yours will be big enough you could get away with tubing. Personally i think solid looks better because hollow tube tends to look to bulky for realizm. Also if your going to keep it real it has some pretty intense tube work under the tranny that would look REALLY thick if you used tubing. As for the diamond plate, I bought this rig and don't now were to get it, but would love to find out. Anyone out there know were to get the diamond plate? |

| how could tube of the same od appear to be bulkier than solid rod? The belly of mine will actually be a lot sparser than the original (I think), and will probably be made of a combo of solid rod and tube (tube for gussets, rod for rockers and trans mount cross members). H3RSQ: What trans is in that thing, emaxx w/twin lathes still? I just took a look at Dans photo gallery and it doesn't seem that that lower tubework would be all that hard to replicate. As for the size of tube/rod on this, what is yours made of, 3/16" rod? I'm wanting mine to be bigger, and trying to keep the weight down somehow. Since I decided that I want the chassis material to be 1/4" od, the only way to keep it light-ish is to mainly use tube. This is Michigan, we don't have real rocks (we have mud, and I stopped running my r/c's when it's wet out a long time ago). Hell, on the stuff we have here (cement stairways), my jumbo swamp dawgs work pretty decent. Weight is a real concern here, my axles and tires are pretty heavy, and the chassis will be pretty large, so I have to save weight where I can. I might be biting off more than I can chew trying to build this as my first tuber, but that's the fun of it, right? I figure I'm ace with a torch (either mapp or oxy/acet), pretty good at basic fab work, and good enough at designing this type of project (this is far from my first "highly modified" r/c), so this shouldn't be too bad Last edited by diesel72; 07-25-2006 at 08:09 PM. |

21.5" wb 28.5" oal 18" wide (outside of tire to outside of tire) 25-25.5" long chassis 11.5" wide chassis 13" tall at ride height Holy ****e this things gonna be a monster!!!!!!!! This will run 9-12 cells, probably 5-6 cells in the engine compartment area and 4-5 cells in the trunk. Got plenty of gp3300's to make up batteries. Now I just need to source out a emaxx tranny and some tube. Can anyone tell me what the internal ratio of an emaxx trans is? So I can figure out gearing, motor options. Diffs are app. 3:1 if I remember correctly. Also, are emaxx trannies 1 or 2 speed. If 2 spd, can it be converted to single? I think it is and can, but not sure (the maxx's were never a big deal to me). What would be a good price to pay for one on the 'bay? And once again, where do I get scale diamond plate?

Yeah, and it's all your fault There I was, perfectly content to mess this whole thing up and make it smaller, then you had to go and tell me the dimensions of yours (and make it perfectly obvious how big mine needs to be to use these axles)
