Default 1/8th scale chevy silverado

got gmade portal axles, 2.2 bead lock rims and tires

finished building the axles and tires here

set my body on cans just to see what it would roughly look like

the start of my frame out of square stock so i could cut it in half so both sides match

time to cut in half with cutoff wheel

all welded together and smoothed out

still need to drill holes for screws for mounting to body

going to be using parts from my emaxx for a bit until i have the spare money to buy a brushless system/ transmission and transfer case. plan on putting motor under the hood with the tcase in the middle and house all the electronics and batteries in the bed with the interior in the cab. headed up to eugene oregon tomorrow to get heim joints to start building a 4 link set up. and may pick up drivelines too

Funny. I was thinking the same thing about that dusty air hose weaving around a white floor. Haha.

right after i got all the suspension done

just got done mounting my emaxx chassis to the frame for now until i save up some money after xmas to get a waterproof system with trans and a diff case so i can move the motor under the hood and get the interior back in it

flexing

6.5 inches is the max right now

got some body roll to deal with when i drive the truck around so need to get stiffer springs and get the second motor replace so im driving on both so it was just a quick 5 minute drive in the yard. not to bad for a first time build

i do work in a body shop. been at it since around the end of 05

had the truck since it was brand new. did not like it much in stock form but i wanted to build it up some day. going to mod the doors so they no longer lambo open and need to run some wiring to the bed for the batteries. i did do led lights all around so that they all work but they are just on. no trick light controller and going to run another battery that will stay under the hood that just runs them and a winch later when i add it on. plan on getting a rc boat later about 30 inches and build a trailer to tow behind it. may build the boat to

thats the biggest tire i can go with without doing some serious cutting. as it was i had to shave a bit of the wheelwell opening so the rear tires would not rub when flexing and had to cut a chunk of the front bumper out too. you can see it where i have the measure tape. i did not even know how big the tires where going to be when i ordered them since this is my first ever build. but since the axles are portal axles that will help alot without needing bigger tires and i dont want go bigger and strain parts more since it does weigh a bit being a hard body and steel frame

i think the body is 2 feet or just over. alot of guys are saying these bodies are 1/8th or 1/5 scales. so i was being conservative at 1/8th

All I know is I need to pick up 2 new motors tomorrow so I'm not just running on 1 and see about the springs too.

Thanks. Took me about 5 hours to built the frame. I think I have about 25 hours from the time I started to put the tires and axles together to the time when I tightened the last nut and drove it for the first time. Not done yet but that's later. Time to enjoy it

doing more testing on it and need to build a exo rollcage. flipped the truck and broke some of the body so going to start that monday after payday. redoing the 4 link on it right now, the aluminum sleeve that slides over the threaded rod to make your own suspension is too weak and keeps bending on me and found brake line works alot better where I was having the problem. so going to do the rest when I build the rollcage. the emaxx 3906 drivetrain has trouble with steep hills so I'm going to make a 4/1 reduction t-case when i buy the new electronics and drivetrain in a few months so i can also go brushless

just finished upgrading my 4 link to steel brake line from the aluminum tubing that i had so now it should bust screws instead

think my tire may be rubbing a little bit

time to mount the body and wait to see if it's still raining tomorrow

Nice build man! cool to see a rig of that size.. Especially a Chevy haha. Have you thought about putting wheel wideners on it at all?

Gotta love Chevy! I could go about a inch and a half wider total which I need to do. the thing is kind of top heavy but the body is worth it. but my main issue is the truck torques bad under power so the front right tire lifts all the time but to get rid of that means stiffer springs so I'll see how stiff I can go before it effects the flex too much. but if a guy does not do a trade with me I plan in doing a build with a nikko body from a old rc truck of mine that I've had since the mid 90s and a h2 hummer after that all hard bodies

the body I will use if the guy does not contact me back
