Not a crawler, but this is my current project... a work in progress. The TIG had been sitting idle for too long.

muh homebrew metal work... get's 'er done

Wraith homebrew chassis conversion to 1/6 scale TJ Jeep ( 15.5" WB )

1/8 X 1/2 weld, flat bar - homebrew engineering

I like it tho' ...works well

then there's muh SCX-10 Honcho armor additions... ( 3/16" rod/220mig )

and a first try no winch bumper, early on...

Are people mostly brazing these, or welding them? Or is it just preference? I`m in the planning stages of starting on a chassis build myself, so I`m curious.

Just brazing here. I would be playing with a welder though if I had one.

How does the brazing hold up if you drive it like you stole it? Seriously, not bashing with 10 feet of air but through anything really rough at speed that may want to break your car apart? The aluminum car i am building is a pain because I have had to work harden it after welding. It has proven worthy of the beating as has the steel car. On a side note, I found a place that has a bunch of 1/4" dom tubing remnant that I may scoop up for a future build for .69 a lb. May mix tubing and rod, steel, on the next rig.

Mine isn't meant to go fast, but it has rolled down a 10' rock embankment and nothing broke loose, and I've been using the rollcage as a carrying handle.

The cage in my Orange jerp is similar to the one I built in the pic above. The orange Jerp weighs 14 lbs, it's been rolled, flipped, drag sideways across rocks, and then just generally abused. The tubes have little dents and dings in them but every braze joint has held up so far.
