I think I saw somewhere that the TRX-4 sport is going for $329 street price

Btw, video here is weird. A while back I ran some tests, and there are threads/sections where embedding works just fine, and others where the exact code (cut and pasted) fails.
Thanks brother! We're very happy with it. Pretty cool because it's my first ever YouTube video and now a comment...was it you? lol

Anyway, I'll leave it as is and only upgrade if anything sucks or breaks.

But, if I were making the same decision today, I would still go with the Barrage. Now THAT is sarcasm.
Mat cfx-w are portal axles and redcat has portals coming some time for a gen7 upgrade. One could build a barrage with portals if axles aren't crazy. Pretty easy to swap axle side rod ends to 3 mm hardware. Big questions are a decent cheap shock and price of portals.

You got me thinking now

Edit:
Doomsday 150
Mst cx-w portal axles 95
Decent shocks 25-40
Traxxas small revo rod ends 12
Roughly around 300ish

Trx-4 sport 329-359 the range I've seen them listed

Guess it's a trade off of be another in the trx-4 crowd or have something unique and have people wonder what it is.

Back to the list, what about steering servo, tires, rims? Couple more bucks.
I wasn't saying you were bashing. I hope I didn't convey that.
At that 300ish price point there are a few good cheap servos around 15-20 that have 200oz+ at 4.8v-6v.
And if I were to build it I have tires on wheels but you can pick up austar swappers on aluminium wheels for under 40. Now you got a rig that can do what you want that's upgraded for the price of a trx-4 sport that would need at least a servo we all know how rtr servos stick around.

So here is my rig right now. Couldn’t live with the stock body. Used a proline f100 for the stampede. Trx4 tires and wheels for now. Gonna be a fj40 an white steel gmade wheels soon. Though I might just build another one. I am gonna price out starting from rails and using scx10 axles and gear as well. Since I get a deal on parts might as well build something cool.

That's a nice job of the paint.

If it helps the doomsday are going for $99.99 rtr right now might be hard to beat that.

You guys are given credit, if not by name, for saving the day. And I apologize for calling it a "must see" video, but everyone on the YouTubes talks like that.

I would be interested in your feedback.

Cheers...Pete

Your video is awesome. I got some
Good ideas. I am on the fence about building a trx4 sport or another one of these. Thinking about starting from frame rails and using some 10.2 parts as I go. These rigs are surprisingly beefy for the gear they have stock. They have plenty of power and torque for anything. So the Robinson pinion fit the stock motor shaft just fine? But the sound you didn’t like?
Have you tried this rig on 3s? I know it doesn’t need it but the speed control will handle it just fine.

Gmade also has r1 axles which are portals as well.
And with $50 off the doomsday it makes making a portal barrage cheaper.

Well, I just ordered myself a $100 Doomsday. How do you not? My plans for it are to make it a nice small crawler that I can leave in my truck for when I have a couple minutes to kill. Initial plans are minimal... a better servo and different wheels & tires. What's out there for cheap (but decent) wheels & tires that don't look foolishly large? Most of the 1.9s look way too big on these things. I have the Austar 1.9 Hyrax clones on my 10428 and they work great, but I really think I want something smaller on the Barrage, if I can do it on the cheap.

The new Gen2 Barrage will have 1.55's on it. Check out some 1.55's.

They are not very aggressive. I am off today but will take a pic of one at the shop tomorrow. They are super sticky. If you are after smaller tires class 1 1.9 hyrax would work great. I will take pics of various 1.9, 1.5 tires tomorrow. Lots of difference. I want to do axial or proline bfg all terrains on my fj40 barrage. I think I am gonna order the doomsday for that. Also gonna do a 4 wheel steer. Hard to not load up at 100 bucks.

No, I didn't mean to get the actual tires from the Gen 2, just that size tire. I wouldn't get the Gen 2 tires either. Definitely something more aggressive for sure

On my rgt it came with a flat iron clone tire at a 4.2" then I got axial trepadros rtr compound at 4.6" were a bit to big. I just ordered austar super Swampers that sit at 4.3" I think will be perfect for what I want.

Tire size depends on body and what you look to achieve with your rig.

It'll definitely depend on the body. Right now I'm thinking about a Stampede Silverado body, but that's subject to change. I like the Vaterra on-road C10 body, but I'm too cheap to spend that much money.

I think a guy in Germany did.

Barrage wb251.4mm, w195.5mm
Clodbuster - wb275mm, w180mm

Tires would stick out a tiny bit but the wheelbase would need a little stretch of around 25mm.

I'm running a blackfoot cab now was going to use everything but changed my mind to do a flatbed.
