I can't be the only one that thinks land rover is a very odd choice for traxxas?

Yeah, why not a Chevy or Ford?

You are right, had to jump on HPI f/b pg. Quoted from 1st post top pg...

sorry we can't accomodate everyone's schedules but we had a LOT of things to sort out! And we are honestly, really, truly, looking at a Summer 2017 release.

So if these pics are really a Traxxas product, that should put a little more pressure on HPI.

Nope. In my previous post I mentioned I'm surprised it's not a Ford body.

Solid axles- offset front, centered rear. Portals. Lockable diffys, 2 speed tranny and if it's like any other battery powered Traxxas, it will be tough as nails and every hobby shop will HAVE to stock replacement parts. I'm excited about seeing more of this.

Rover body makes sense- Ferd owns that company, maybe Traxxas got a sweet licensing deal.

Still seems kinda odd for an american company and the defender is now discontinued.

Agreed, but refreshing at the same time to see something a bit different.

I agree that the Land Rover body seems like an odd choice, but not for a European toy fair. I'm sure there will be an American truck body for the USA release.

Here's Your First Look at Traxxas' NEW SCALER - RC Car Action

My take: I am begging them to STOP with the black decals covering the windows, at least for this vehicle. I mean, at least most RTR bodies are cheap to get the clear replacements to do a proper paint job - but this one wouldn't be.

I know they do it so they can shoot the underside without masking to save a couple pennies... but COME ON! It has always looked like crap.

Upon release of this chassis - it may well end up with an entirely different body - depends on final licensing details.

It would be a good thing, in my opinion, if they did release a decent crawler/scaler - more competition, and bringing more public interest to the hobby because of their massive advertising budget.

Even more bodies, wheels, tires, and accessories would be sure to show up for use on it and other crawlers/scalers.

That's no longer true. Ford sold Land Rover to Tata about 10 years ago.

Well I'll be damned. Maybe it is true.

I'm not sure why Traxxas would get in now, but I welcome they with open arms. Traxxas is a great RC company. This could make scaling even bigger too because we all know it will be in stores.

I might have to break my "no Traxxas" rule for this...

Think it uses Revo rod ends?!?

I like it so far. If they keep the same dimensions of the SCX10, including frame width and bumper spacing, than there will be a lot of options on the market for it out the door.
If the axles are the same width as the Axial's then I have a truck just waiting for them. I was looking at the MST ones, but now I may have options.

I am also hearing a mid March release date.

The frame rails look plastic. I'm not OK with that. But I'm sure Traxxas or somebody else will offer metal versions.

I might actually preorder this one.

I'm sure they went through the trouble of engineering a ton of parts from scratch and paying for the molds just for funsies.

You're forgetting one thing. You don't need molds with 3D printing. You can, and some people do, make entire RCs out of 3D printed parts. The fender flares, for example, surely look 3D printed.

It appears I was wrong and this is a legit Traxxas prototype though.

Ditto on the pre-order. I haven't bought a new truck in like 8 years because I've been doing customer rigs from parts. But it is funny I have an scx10 based defender, two rigs with portals, venom creeper axles on a rig with the remote diff locker on the front axle and a couple 2 speed trannys on hand for a future build. This traxxas truck could have saved me a lot of time and money since it may do it all!

As long as they don't go all proprietary on it....

None of the running gear looks 3D printed to me.
