Found this guy on ebay for $210, at a glance it seems to be similar to the redcat Everest 10. I bought one, will post my thoughts/overview when it shows. "thumbsup"

Without further ado...

Some interesting features not mentioned in the ad:
The body is hinged at the front and the whole thing can be removed with two screws.
It also has two working headlights.
Here is the truck without the body bolted on:

http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...1/DSC_0259.jpg

Links: 6mm O.D. Links w/ 3mm threads
U joints: are metal of some description with plastic driveshaft tubes
Wheel wideners are an extra 15mm on each side.

Esc is an actual 1040wp, ran it on 3s and it didn't blow up. It also comes with fake deans, not the tamiya plug.

Much to my surprise the tires are super nice, feel like a good compound and the foams are also well suited for the weight of the truck.
The rims are an axial copy of the face but as a glue on, they also seem to be well built.
http://i498.photobucket.com/albums/r...1/DSC_0265.jpg

Side note: Don't boil or bake the rims to get the tires off it just warps the hell out of the rim.

Here they are vs the proline

What I like:
Truck generally seems well built
Not too much slop anywhere
Great tires
Standard size equipment
Shocks aren't leaking

What I dislike:
Abysmal turning radius
Philips hardware
Brittle plastics......

Had the truck out for it's first run and snagged a tire on a rock, my fault but I'm convinced those stupid wideners had a hand in this

I'll be damned if I'm dropping $30 to replace the parts on these axles, going to slap something else under it.

Ask away if you need any measurements or pictures, I'll do my best to provide"thumbsup"

Does look very similar to the Everest 10. Not sure if I like the 2 tits on both undersides of the pumpkin/diff housing. Hope it turns out well. Will check back to see the results of the reveiw.

On my sons scx10 it has these axles (well Everest 10) and I just shaved those

Was going to be my suggestion, but figured you know the drill.

Didn't know they were like that on the original scx10 axles unless the previous owner of mine grinded them off. Sadly I got rid of it before I could do any real crawling or modding. Did pick up a new 10ii and TH U4 though.
*Update* Everest 10 axles you stated.. they have the post's too I see..

Come to think of it, I ran those axles on a mutt hilux build too.

Like with my rgt rock cruiser I bet it's a clone of something ecx and hsp has in the works they haven't released yet. And with the axles are Everest 10 based that good at least axial parts will work to beef them up.

I think that's a pretty good looking truck.

TVP chassis suck though.

That price though! I read it as $120 which would have been great. $210 is too much.

i kinda like it. subscribing for the review. might make a decent beginner crawler for my will be 8yo for christmas. plus being basically an axial rip, parts will be easy enough to sort out.

Oh btw. Plan on replacing the lockers soon after the first run with some axials. The stock lockers in those axels are plastic or well they used to be anyways

Thanks for the heads up, I would hope they updated them for the larger tires but we shall see.

Truck is scheduled to show up Friday, will give it a rip this weekend

Re: Rgt rr-4

The everest has 2.2 and plastic lockers. Most likely like the Everest you are going have to file down the axle shafts to fit in the axial locker and if you go axial gear shiming the pinion too

I found this by accident while looking at battery chargers. It was $187 here, but is OOS now.

It is a HSP. It's being sold as either HSP or RGT on ebay. But HSP make those axles. The ECX stuff and the Redcat stuff is all rebadged HSP not clones.

Re: Rgt rr-4

Kinda a sham about the c-hub and axle shaft.

honchojoe 05-26-2017 11:39 PM

Re: Rgt rr-4

Most people replace those knuckles a nd c hubs with axial ones. Also the locker/spool in those is normally plastic so you need to cut the plastic post off and drop in an axial locker. Then you can also run axial axle shafts. Alternatively you can buy the hsp locker. 180009 is the part number. But the axial shafts don't work on the hsp/rgt locker as the tang on the hsp is thicker than the axial one.

Re: Rgt rr-4

Good deal on the review. I still think it's bs to pay that price for it and it needs locker upgrades right out of the box. At least on this it has rear lock outs unlike the Everest 10.

If this would come down to Everest 10 pricing I'd consider picking a couple up for my daughters.

Re: Rgt rr-4

G’Day all,

I spotted one of these on eBay and picked it up in the hopes it would perform the role of a cheaper Rock Racer + kids bushwalking car + loan car for friends. I’ve got a Redcat Everest 10 (E10) that currently performs this role but I’d been finding it a bit too slow and not well suited to aggressive driving.

So here’s my 2c in additional to what’s already been mentioned, specifically compared to my E10 which I know is not a like-for-like comparison but hey, its what I was comparing it to and as mentioned earlier they share lot of drivetrain parts.

Likes
* Tough plastic tube frame body structure with front bumper bar – I’m not having a panic attack every time the kids pick it up by the roof or when it rolls
* Faster than E10 – Whereas the E10 has a 40T brushed motor, this has the same motor as the HSP brushed drifters, rally cars, etc so it should be 27T motor. On a decent output 2S LIPO you could say it has Rock Racer speed (just), on 7.2v NiMH its probably more like a quick crawler
* Lots of drivetrain parts shared with E10 (see further details below)
* Better tyres compared to E10 - Softer / stickier compound, slightly higher and narrower providing better grip
* The front axle is rotated inwards slightly vs E10 (due to lower angle of the drive-shafts as the transmission is lower), which raises the height of the steering links which in turn reduces their exposure to damage
* The battery tray has raised sides vs the E10 one, keeping the battery in place much better
* The lights are a nice touch
* Light and compact transmitter with throttle EPA
* Ease of switching around the battery and electronics front to back (the mounting points on the chassis are identical front to back) (which way is best for rock racing??)
* The driver figures are a nice touch, especially for the kids
* Like the E10, axles are somewhat compatible with Axial parts
* The ESC is good for an RTR with easy swapping between NiMH and LIPO
* Wiring is less exposed than the E10
* Has a proper chassis-mounted front bumper vs the E10 which has none

Dislikes
* Axle internals aren’t the same part numbers as E10 and aren’t easily available yet (can anyone recommend any sellers of hard to find HSP parts?), but I guess you could always use E10 parts if needs be
* The turning radius / steering angle isn’t great (similar to E10). For trail runs it isn’t doesn’t present much of a problem but for precise crawling its pretty average
* Would have been nice to have some more drag brake options as 100% can be pretty harsh
* Cheap feeling transmitter

What key parts are identical / different vs the E10
* Faster brushed motor on the RR-4 as mentioned above
* Axle shells are the same but not the internals
* Link mounts on the axles and servo mount are identical
* Steering knuckles and C hubs are identical
* If you upgrade to an alloy locked diff the part is identical, but the stock parts are different. Maybe they put a stronger locked diff in the RR-4 after all the reports of the E10 plastic ones failing
* Transmission (including spur and pinion) are identical (so same gearing)
* Transmission mounting plates are identical
* Centre drive shafts look similar but are different part numbers. Perhaps the RR-4 has longer driveshafts but I couldn’t tell any difference
* Shocks on the E10 are much longer
* Each uses different links (including different steering links) but note all the RR-4’s ones are straight, there’s no bent ones like the E10
* The rear axles use lock-outs / rear axle covers (what’s the right name?) (similar to a SCX10) vs the E10 setup. The E10 looks like it has half the pieces ready for rear steering to be added – Can anyone help me understand the significance / benefit of each approach???

Key dimension comparisons vs the E10
* Axle height off the ground is almost the same. The RR-4 has slightly taller tyres but it would only be a mm or two gain. Note my previous comment that the steering links are slightly less exposed on the RR-4
* The height of the transmission base plate off the ground is 81mm on the RR-4 and 98mm on the E10
* The RR-4 has a slightly longer wheelbase 335mm vs the E10 at 320mm
* With the wheel wideners (correct name??) the track width is wider on the RR-4 at 220mm vs the E10 at 205mm
* The RR-4 can get a front wheel 100m off the ground before a rear wheel starts rising (measured from the lowest point of the front wheel) while the E10 can get to 115mm before this happens

Thoughts on the radio system (HTX-2)
My initially thoughts on the radio system were not great. Compared to the standard Redcat / HSP remotes (the Flysky GT2 knock-offs) (which although quite basic, I’ve yet to have a problem with one) the transmitter felt really flimsy and there is next to no travel on the throttle (works like an on/off switch) or steering.
Having said that it‘s very light (4x AA’s) (good for the kids) and compact (I can drive with one hand while jogging).
It has the standard servo reversing and trims, dual rate steering and surprisingly throttle EPA which can help slow the truck down to crawling pace or for kids to use which was an unexpected / uncommon bonus.
I thought for a minute that it might be a full 3 channel setup as there is space in the receiver and a switch on the transmitter, but so far testing the lights I can’t get it to work.
Note also that the on/off and 3rd channel switch covers are small (like choking hazard small) and will pop off easily.

Misc notes
* Design wise the RR-4 keeps it’s weight lower and spreads it further front to back vs the E10, more suited to a Rock Racer I guess
* Those posts under the axle pumpkin on the E10 (used to mount a bumper on the HSP Pangolin variants) seen in some of the marketing shots weren’t there on my one
* When I initially went to pull the body off to access the battery etc, it felt like I was going to break something. With the levered body you’ve really got to give it a solid tug at the back to get it to pop over the rear body posts
* The WP1040 esc on/off switch can be mounted upside down and accessed easily through the bottom without taking the body off
* Mine came with Deans plugs although the advertising pictures were of Tamiya plugs
* The levered body is a nice touch and strengthens the front bumper somewhat, but sometimes it can make it difficult to work on the car

Drive Impressions
I should note here that my experience with Crawlers is limited to a SCX10 Honcho and E10, both largely stock (the original E10 plastic diff lockers are holding so far!). More relevant is the fact I have no experience with Rock Racers.

What I was after was something with a little speed that I could take on trail runs; Something that I could bash and leave my SCX10 to be kept in decent condition; Something that wasn’t going to cost a lot; And something kids / friends could drive on bushwalks without me cringing every time they crashed.

Again I was comparing to the E10 which isn’t a fair comparison I know.

It’s early days but so far this truck delivers on all of the above, so much so that I’ll probably offload my E10 and get another one of these.

In terms of crawling ability they’re almost on par in stock form. The better tyres of the RR-4 give it a bit of a grip advantage and the lower CoG can help with side hilling, while the higher transmission mounting plate and longer shock travel of the E10 give it an advantage re break over angle and when the axles get all crossed up.
Obviously adding some decent tyres to the E10 would give it the win though.
Both suffer in this area with poor steering angle / turning circle and a weak servo.

In terms of Rock Racing, in stock form the E10 isn’t really in the picture. A faster motor could be easily added but the crawler design I’d suggest doesn’t lend itself rock racing.
The E10 also gets a decent amount of torque twist which the RR-4 doesn’t seem too.

Final thoughts
In stock form the E10 is only a Crawler whereas the RR-4 can be a Crawler or Rock Racer.
So for what I want it to do, the RR-4 gets the win for me.
As a cheap Rock Racer, a trail truck for the kids or for those wanting something faster than an E10 it certainly seems to fit the bill…

Cheers,
Crouch
