FTX Mauler RTR Rock Crawler « Big Squid RC – News, Reviews, Videos, and More! New to me ? What y'all think? http://fs5.directupload.net/images/170831/rqri4j67.png Sorry, if someone else put this up. |
Re: FTX Mauler For the price it looks to be a good starter. |
Re: FTX Mauler It's a plate chassis underneath. Those axles have stubs hanging down so I guess it's reversible and still has mounts. Those would need to be shaved. I'd need to fondle it or see a bunch of body off pics. |
Re: FTX Mauler With a name like Mauler, I was expecting an RC version of this: https://s1.cdn.autoevolution.com/ima...es-video_2.jpg Figured the "u" in Mauler was just one of those weird European spelling things, like colour. |
Re: FTX Mauler Looks like a RGT Rock Hammer (also sold by HSP under the same name, as well as "RR-4") with a different paint job. Same drivetrain as a Redcat Everest 10 and all the other AX10 type clones. Hobbywing WP1040 ESC (will run 3s) 2.2" glue-on tires, wheel spacers, hinged rollcage, etc. For $60 more than a Redcat E10/HSP, I'm considering it for my younger son's first 1/10 scale. At $200, it's the same price as the soon-to-be-released Redcat Gen7 scaler, but the RR4 will certainly crawl better out of the box. |

Re: FTX Mauler New from FTX! The Everest 10(HSP 1/10 crawler base) pretends to be a Bomber! |
Re: FTX Mauler Hmmm... the esc in those pictures is not the same wp1040 I've seen in HSP/RGT's pictures. No idea what it is, hopefully NOT an esc/rx combo unit. |
Re: FTX Mauler It appears the FTX is getting an all in one where the RGT gets the standard stuff, The FTX appears to be marketed in GB where as the RGT seems to be offerd in USD. But if I were going to get one I would personally rather have a 'kit' version without electronics. |
Re: FTX Mauler Thats deffinatelly an all-in-one esc/rx....Run away! The HSP RGT is a much better offer. |
Re: FTX Mauler I bet this chassis could be made to perform very well for the non scale snobbers. |
Re: FTX Mauler Took mine out to play in out the box form yesterday. Not bad at all for a cheapy. Was able to crawl better than the £500 scalers and held it’s own against the Wraiths. Now I have a baseline I can tinker. Needs better tyres/wheels as the OEM’s are not good on the surfaces I tend to run on (Mud/chalk/slurry) and a faster motor. I will be bunging in my own radio gear plus a Quickrun 1060 as I have them in the spares box. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: FTX Mauler Hows the Mauler holding up? I just ordered one for my son, hoping its worth it! |
Re: FTX Mauler Have the RGT 18000 rock racer which is same as mauler with different probbetter electronics, literally melted my servo plastic melted but upgraded and been awsome. the thing climbs like a champ, even in 3 wheel drive! has some negatives: horrible turning radius but ordered aluminum c and steering hubs, which could increase radius by looks of em. stripped rear diff. off bat positives are that the hopup parts on ebay are all frm china but are plentiful metal and low cost. honestly if we need to compare it to Axial its a Wroncho, Wraith axles and wheels on slightly long Scx10 chasis. looks like lots of axial parts fit. FTX more complete parts selection than anyone else. tires are super grippy for stock, especially on rocks. could use upgrades but what doesnt |
Modded mine with a cheap GoolRC brushless motor and ESC (£28) and bunged on some Scout wheels/tyres. Took it out to some local slopes: https://youtu.be/PCusudIkBCQ After replacing the broken steering servo, I then took it for a crawl along a stream https://youtu.be/taK1stHRR8w On that last vid it was one of only two cars left running at the end of the day. All the much more expensive others had broken Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk The diffs are the same as the Scout ones and I have yet to kill them. Eventually they will be replaced with Axial ones once I spot some on eBay at a price I am happy with Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Re: FTX Mauler I like the tires. They look like a comp cut Proline Baja. Probably hard as a rock though. Cool looking little rig. You could make a monster truck with that chassis too. |
Tires actually super grippy real nice rubber compound. Could use more aggressive tread in snow that I’ve been trailing in Nice vids Jay!!!! How diffs etc holding up with extra power. I’m really hoping ones I’ve ordered from China are decent, guess for 10 bucks can replace often cheep enough! Have u found hat other scx parts fit? Here’s little crawling vid, little delay in beginning https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCcXC3_qetl Rgt rock racer crawling pt2 Video of Rock Hammer Not greatest production value but shows flex etc, not bad for wet rocks, cold conditions, and 3 wheel drive cause of shitty diffs😳😂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZR2dGa3ROE Love my hsp rgt rock hammer. |

I like the spot in you video its very close to me and i will be paying it a visit very soon ( may see you down there? ) decided to make it 4 wheel steering and also moved the shock mounts to on top of the axles instead of underneath, this has made it feel a lot smoother than stock. Anyway i like the mauler but went with the cheaper option untill i can afford something a bit better. Sent from my SM-T210 using Tapatalk |
Re: FTX Mauler I believe that these use the same axle assemblies as the Everest 10 and the Gen7. If that's true, the HSP 180009 alloy lockers can be used to replace the plastic lockers, and they're under $20 for the pair. |
