I was hoping for a faux engine block, but I’m still gonna get it!

Well, it seems Vanquish tested the waters with their Ripper scale crawler, and now they are moving ever so slightly downwards in price.

I would not be surprised at all by another, less expensive version to follow some time down the road.

This is a MUCH better approach to the market IMHO than Team Associated's recent foray - just taking an already released and not even popular budget RTR smaller-than 1/10th scale vehicle and throwing a new body on it.

It's like an automotive company starting out with a racer and then taking the lessons learned in high-end competition and eventually entering the mass market with a very well-engineered relatively affordable vehicle.

Vanquish has shown this attitude recently with their Incision lineup of foreign-made upgrade parts, and then the plastic Machete wheel release.

I could see them perhaps teaming up with a plastic part manufacturer in Asia and delivering plastic axle housings (or maybe just diff housings as SSD did, keeping metal axle housings for strength and weight) and also possibly plastic transmission housings.

Later, more plastic beadlock wheel designs allowing for SLW hubs and metal rings to be added will be coming - Gearhead RC has shown that Delrin wheel centers on an otherwise aluminum wheel can end up being the best of both worlds.

This release from Vanquish could lead to much more variety in the world of scale crawler vehicles, parts and upgrades.

I think they are forward-thinking enough to take this trend to its logical conclusion.

SSD is their strongest competitor and has been doing this themselves for some time, with their own slightly different approach using steel wheels and Delrin beadlock rings as well as their recent releases of plastic axle and diff housings to keep prices more reasonable.

I think it's all to the good, just give it time to play out.

I mean we could all not buy it and start adopting the Traction Hobby Cragsman 1/8 scale crawler for a little less...

Here's a pic of the tires for you. The compound is excellent. Very soft, sticky and sub 4.75".

That body color is a nice choice and compliment the raw aluminum and black parts

Thanks!

What paint did you use on that body? It's beautiful!

Correct, backed with black. Light coats is key.

I think it is pretty funny that some are whining about the price. I have well over $900.00 in all of my rigs. In Josh's video he clearly states "This rig is not for everyone."
Hell Vanquish thought the Ripper would never be for sale...It was made to showcase what they could do if they wanted to. The community went crazy and some people had to have one...I know someone with two. Now they are up to Ripper 75 I believe.
I am all for Vanquish throwing their hat in the ring. I am not sure if I will pick one up, but maybe. I think it is great. it not like some of the other companies that posted up a teaser and did not release for like three years, or building something gimmicky with no support.
You know Vanquish did not try to reinvent the wheel, you know Vanquish has unreal support. You know they have been listening the whole time they have been building parts for other rigs.
I am in kind an area where I have got to meet and chat with some of the Vanquish guys and they are pretty genuine, and care about our hobby and theirs.
Yep I think it is a good thing. Great job Vanquish!!

If you make it they will come.

I think this this is rad. I am not aware of a competing truck?(im sure there are a couple out there, cross maybe?) who else sells a complete Ultra High End(ish) kit? yet at the low end of the market there must be 20 or 30 options...

The commercial reality is it makes much more sense to sell into a new market, than to sell into a HYPER flooded one.

however, I wont be buying one as I'm in Australia and it will cost me $1500 to land it.... and I'm cheap... and I only buy used rigs (cause im cheap)

This is my 2 cents, if i owned Vanquish, I would have done the same thing. ( I would also bring out a cheaper plastic version a few months after release...)

Cool truck, but nothing innovative. I'd bite at $700, but not at $900.

VP didn't even display the truck with the stock wheels and tires. I'm interested in the body and tires. I'm hoping the tires are less than 4.75", a new tread pattern, and a good compound.
It’s no surprise to read your comments, even if you still underestimated pricing and so on. However some of this is completely incorrect. We wouldn’t strand a customer if they broke an axle and we wouldn’t do that with any running product. And we haven’t seen axles like this “wear out”. Just because we won’t be offering them individually for sale initially doesn’t mean we don’t back our products to our customers.

We didn’t display our wheels and tires because we weren’t even going to show it at the event at this time. But in the initial plan, when we were going to be running them at the PROLINE event, we we’re going to keep it low key and use Proline tires to show appreciation to the company that put in the hard work. When the last minute change happened because Proline asked us about a possible release, we had this one truck with us to show.

This whole project has been a lot of fun and very exciting to be involved with. There are tons of details and durability in this kit that set it apart. I’m looking forward to everyone finally being able to see it!

And I’m lookin forward to not having to triple check every picture I post from my phone to make sure it’s not actually something I can’t show yet!

IIRC, in his videoblog he stated pre-orders in June.

Anyone else get an Icon vehicles vibe from the body of this rig?

https://www.icon4x4.com/

Vintage style with cleaned-up modern trim details and drivetrain, sorta like if Icon did an IH Scout as well as their FJ and Bronco models.

I'm a fan of the design, definitely.

I was wondering about having to be secretive about this. I am sure you had to be careful about when and where you brought it out.
I think it is great that you guys brought this to market. I think the price is more than fair. I look forward to getting a closer look at it.

You should send one to Australia for testing... Test it out in our harsh outback....

All of our parts are so expensive that I flew out to every continent to test this vehicle in the harshest terrains. I will say that the tires didn't work as well in Antartica as they did in Africa, but I think we made a good choice to go with the softer compound rather than going with the optional studded ice tires.

but there isn't anything to do with the Cragsman: it's an interesting car, but rtr, already assembled, and no kit version is announced
This Vanquish car should be a real pleasure to assemble, and it's for me a BIG part of rc car pleasures
