Maxstone scale opinions

I bought a maxstone and have had fun with it stock but now the scale side of crawlers have been intriguing me lately.

I got several different sets of tires, got an extended but same style of chassis and painted up a cheap wrangler body. To cheap actually it came all crinkled up in the box. I used a hair dryer to somewhat restore it...

BUT I am not going to be competing anywhere or anything like that. I just would like a scale ish truck for the weekends and stuff without spending unnecessary money.

I read the scale guidelines thread and my twin plate chassis wasn’t listed there so I know that’s a drawback. So I’ll post pics of what I’ve got so far and I’d like opinions guys!

So I am willing for a tube/ladder style or scx style chassis if that’s what makes it. Just am new to all this. And maybe a maxstone isn’t something I should be building off of....?

It looks great to me. You have some innovative ideas like the body mounts you made. I was wondering about the Jeep body you have. Hair drier trick huh? I think it looks pretty good and the crinkles add to it to make it look like it has been used out on the trail. As long as you are happy with the way it performs on the trail and you are having fun with it. Go for it. Everyone who builds a scaler brings something new for all to see. Making it yours is a complete one off. Just have fun with it!

You know, with the body on I would say it looks half decent.
If you just want to hit the rocks and have fun, I think you're on the right path.
But if you really want a chassis with rails there has never been a better time to get a budget chassis!
Just off the top of my head there is
Barrage 2.0 is closer to 1:12 scale but great little truck with increasing body options
(related ftx and rgt - the later just released a full size truck)
Associated just released their 1:12 truck the
cr-12
Red cat Everest 7
Mst cfx/cmx
Carisma is affordable too
3racing ex real

I'm sure I forgot some but really there is a wide selection.
Also if you check for used rigs you can find some deals too.

Really you cant go wrong if you just want to get out there and have fun.
Really sounds like you have the right idea so far.

You know, if you add a roof rack and some of the cool scale items like the high lift jack, shovel, cooler and so on. You will have a great looking scale rig. Use your imagination and keep the pictures coming of the progress you make. Who knows how far this will go.

Re: Maxstone scale opinions

Hey I’m glad to hear all this! To be honest I was kind of surprised at the positivity.

I do have a Everest gen 7 chassis but when I put it on it limited the articulation but this is scale so that would probably be perfect.

But thanks for the encouraging words. It really bolsters my ego in a good way about this build. Thanks tons and yes I’ll get pics as I go!

Re: Maxstone scale opinions

the main difference between something like the maxtone and a scale rig is articulation and tire size. a 1/10 scale "scale" rig will generally need 1.0" tires to look "scale". in stock form the maxtone has a ridiculous amount of articulation.
I have a maxtone 10 and a barrage gen2. Ive limited the articulation on my maxtone 10 by putting 1.25" of fuel tubing on each shock shaft, but its still got way more than is scale, and still has 2.2" tires.... Personaly, I would just keep the maxtone as is and get a second rig for a scale rig. I let my 9yo daughter drive my maxtone 10 while I dive my barrage. This works great becuase even though she isnt a great driver, she can still go pretty much anyplace I can go.

Sorry it’s taking so long. Been working out of state.

But here I changed the chassis over to the gen 7 chassis. I like it better already. Haven’t mounted the battery yet.

I have a roof rack coming but didn’t really dig the idea of accessories like somebody suggested... shovel, cooler etc. although I’m cool when others do it.

Re: Maxstone scale opinions

Well got everything done except roof rack still being shipped.

Can’t say I’m to impressed with traction with the tires. Also the bumpers are almost over sized but I like them.

Unfortunate I already had lights and cups installed on the body so I guess I won’t be putting them on the bumpers even tho they have holes for them.
