Default question about roll cages and truggies

How are truggy and roll cages made? Welding steel rods? Or brazing? If it is brazing, what goes in that?

Thanks

people use lots of different techniques. some use a mig welder, some of the more high quality are made with tig, others use brazing rods and an oxy/acetylene setup.

I braze my stuff using an oxy/mapp torch. Mostly because I don't know how to weld.

Maps gas and Safety-Silv I think is the most recommended method. Or any silver bearing plumbing solder, I've known people to have success with sticks too from Home Depot. Not sure which ones tho.

This^^

Even being a pretty savvy welder I like to braze these little guys. It just comes out cleaner no matter how well you can tig. I use stainless tubing and media blast the cages and leave them raw. Just looks much better when finished to me

This is all the stuff I have right now for brazing. The Blue demon rod is awesome and the best price but I am not a fan of the flux coating. So i scrape it off or most of it, then you can control your flow with the paste instead

I went the budget route with my cage. I used 3/16" brake line and had a buddy Tig weld it together. Then I sand blasted it. Total cost around $60. $14 in brake line and I traded a set of tires for the welding. I wanted to use SS tubing and braze it, but the cost of silver solder and SS tubing was out of my budget.

So far it's holding up great! I have taken some good tumbles with it and no issues. Just some scratched paint. Hope this helps. There's a few threads on here about truggy cages. Also my Trx-4 thread has more details. Good luck! Can't wait to see what you come up with.
