| New RC4WD Overland Trucks 4x4 and a 6x6
Two flavors. 4x4 and a 6x6. 4x4 looks like fun start to a Dakar Rally type build or Trails truck build. JD Models, so similar parts to Dakar rig. I had the Dakar truck and liked the setup and parts, it was just too heavy. Also, I have always liked how RC4WD releases new products. They just do it. https://store.rc4wd.com/114-Overland...ck_p_7855.html https://store.rc4wd.com/%E2%80%8B114...ed_p_7841.html Last edited by Szczerba; 01-20-2020 at 01:48 PM. |

I like the 4x4. Looks like it would even be fun as a trail truck. And I have to say the pricing is very reasonable, especially for RC4WD. The pricing really ramps up on the 6x6.

Yah but it adds two servos, esc, radio, longer frame, another axle setup, spare wheel/tire, functional bed, etc. but it does ramp. Haha Very tempting to buy the 4x4 and make a Dakar or Trials, as you mentioned. I do like the JD Models rigs for scale looks and decent wheeling ability.

I wonder how those leafs compare to a Trail Finder or the like. They look longer, and also might have more arch? Both of those features would be desireable, but with a GVW of 37lbs, those springs may not be a good donor for me though!

Those look interesting for sure. I noticed the 4X4 description notes that there is "no lipo cutoff" very nice lol I do like how they're finally saying yeah just take it apart so you can threadlock it. From the notes section: Notes: Always turn on the transmitter before switching on the ESC. ESC Supports XT60 Connector The ESC does not have lipo cut off. While some components may come assembled, it may be in your best interests to check the products to ensure all hardwares are tight. In some cases you may want to apply threadlock to some of the hardwares that were already installed. Use good quality hex drivers to avoid stripping screw heads. Use thread lock when putting metal screws into metal parts. Use threadlock sparingly. Do not over tighten screws, otherwise, you may strip the thread. Do not use more than 3S battery. (11.1 volt(s)) This product is for experienced R/C users. Not recommended if you just started with R/C. EDIT It looks like the no LVC note was a typo Last edited by HumboldtEF; 01-22-2020 at 01:35 PM. |

Good catch on your end though! Sadly, this has more of the same old RC3WD written all over it. Hard pass.

The Dakar truck was a solid truck, built well with some cool features. Same with the Ford Hero truck. Their rigs focus more on the scale element than a hardcore crawler or basher. A small niche of rigs but very cool, IMO.

The 6x6 chassis sold separately would be intriguing Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Both look really cool. I'd take either, but I told myself no more buying trucks till all my other upgrades are done to the other trucks.

It's awesome, but no dampers? Is it bouncy as hell?

I am figuring that out with RC4WD now. In the manual for the 4x4 it shows pictures of the 4x4 and 6x6, since they are similar. Some pictures it has front shocks and some it does not. Tough to tell which truck is pictured.Could be the 4x4 and 6x6 setups. The 6x6 manual does show front shocks but the 6x6 is only pictured in that manual. So, some confusion but RC4WD has been responding hyper quick. Yah springy but is a smooth springy. Leafs are probably 5-6" long with 5-6 leafs on each pack. Not a deal beaker but want the parts if they are supposed to be with the truck. But for the $453 shipped price, the details and coolness outweigh the lack of front shocks. I can fix that. I'll be chopping the frame anyways. Random note. Tires and wheels are 1.7" and 100mm tall. Close to same wheels on the Dakar truck but exact same tires. EDIT: Got a quick reply and the 4x4 was not intended to come with any shocks. ... Last edited by Szczerba; 03-12-2020 at 11:20 AM. |
