Default tamiya TLT axles

I have a custom scaler i built a long time ago using tilt axles. i am wanting to put the drive shaft from a scx10 II on it. i have them built to exact size. but my problem is the pinion shaft that comes out of the axle to connect the drive shaft too only has a flat spot on them. I need a hole through them to install my scx10 II drive shafts. are there any other pinion bevel gear and shaft that will work in the tilt axle . i was going to try to drill through them but the part that sticks out is just a little short so the scx10 driveshaft won't go back enough for the pin to go through it. if any of that made sense. thanks

You could just use a set screw on the driveshaft instead of a screw pin. The Ascender did that which is less than ideal as it likes to come loose so a liberal application of loctite is a must.

Would it help to grind down the end of the SCX10.2 driveshaft or am i getting that backwards?

the axle will go over the pinion shaft fine, but I can't use just a set screw because the pin helps hold the drive shaft ends together. i started to drill but it won't be in the right place, not enough room on tilt shaft to drill where i need

Drilling TLT pinions is a scary, not so recommended procedure (lotsa broken pinion shafts)

Back in the day we used a set screw on the flat spot... they constantly popped off

Some company many moons ago (RCP?) made aftermarket pinions out of hardened steel that had a hole already bored, though I'm sure they've been discontinued by now

I have always just drilled through the shaft. It's not hard if you have a drill press, but can be done with a vice and cordless. Always centerpunch!!
