Default best shocks between Axial and Traxxas

Hi,

could you tell me your opinion about shocks, between Traxxas TRX-4 shocks and Axial SCX10-3 shocks, which one is better than the other ?

Regards.

In my experience trx4 have worked better for me, as far as not leaking.

The Traxxas GTS shocks are for sure better than those on the Capra.

I would have to agree the Traxxas TRX4 GTS shocks are high quality and leak free compared to some of the other shocks out there. The Traxxas Big Bore shocks are also excelent shocks available in 90mm, 100mm and 110mm.

Agreed - also, if you find Element RC shocks they are excellent - I can't personally tell which I prefer between them and those from the TRX-4.

The aluminum body big bores with Dravtech springs are hard to beat. I tend to run Dravtech shocks on all my builds but the aluminum body Traxxas BB is hard to beat. I like the sub 90mm set up.

Another possible option?

I have NO idea how they perform - too new - but Yeah Racing has a decent looking new shock coming out - decent priced, too...

Desert Cobra Dual Spring Damper:

RCMart has 'em for less than $26 a pair, hopefully retailers with US warehouses will get them soon.

I don't know about others...but, for me, Yeah Racing parts have been "hit & miss". Machined parts, in & of themselves, have been very good, but 'mechanical' parts (ie. those involving movement, such as a servo saver) have been "problematic". When it comes to shock, Traxxas is almost always my primary go-to (GTS, GTR). At the same time, the Element Enduro shocks are also very good...almost as good as the GTS shocks.

It ultimately depends on personal preference and the specific use case of the shocks. Both Traxxas TRX-4 shocks and Axial SCX10-3 shocks have their own pros and cons. The TRX-4 shocks have a reputation for being durable and reliable, while the SCX10-3 shocks are known for their adjustability and versatility. It's recommended to do some research on both options and consider your specific needs before making a decision.

Regarding which one leaks worse, the Axial units tend to leak first before Traxxas shocks do. Both brands operate smoothly until they wear down.

Element makes excellent "out of the box" shocks. But, from my experience GMade's provided or "DIY" shocks have the best performance over a more extended period of use.

I’ve definitely had the sticking issue with trx shocks, I have found a rebuild kit that includes thinner white x ring spacers that solves that issue.

TRA2362 includes x rings and spacers for $2.50

Some people just slightly loosen the lower x ring caps until it goes away.

I agree! I've had the same issue with the GTS shocks. With this kit it solves the sticktion problem and IMO makes these shocks one of the best replacement shocks. These shocks can be found for less than $50 bucks for a set of 4 and makes them a great deal.

The Element Enduro shocks rank right up there too as being the best for the price. Super smooth and all that I own are leak free.

Of course Dravtech have always been top notch and are worth every dollar!

Did Axial finally produce a halfway decent set of shocks?

They set the bar pretty low but they did finally make some good improvements. I think the Capra was the first to get their new design and then the 10.3, before that they were junk.

Gmade does make some really great shocks. I think what they lack is softer spring rates, almost all of their springs are too stiff for a light rig in my experience.

Yes, finally I believe Axial has a decent shock. Not the best, but doable. My Capra had the newer version shocks on it along with my 10.3 JLU and Gladiator.

Knock on wood, they feel pretty smooth and haven't puked out all of their oils!

I have a TRX4 that is 2 years old and probably has 350+ miles on it. Stock unopened shocks. Just after this last outing do the shocks need some attention. I was impressed by that...

Thanks Ross
