MG,are you going for that WWII look? Just for some reason that's the first thing that came to my mind when I saw it.

Do you know what a VW Type 181 (Thing) is?

dezfan 06-05-2007 12:13 PM

shutupanddrive 06-05-2007 12:14 PM

Unholy 06-05-2007 12:16 PM

I googled it. Pretty interesting little VW thing

rion noir 06-05-2007 12:41 PM

Its not a beetle, its a Thing.

STANG KILLA SS 06-05-2007 12:51 PM

there was a nice restored one just up the road from the house i grew up in. they drove it alot too.

microgoat 06-05-2007 01:57 PM

I should have called this thread "It's a VW Thing, you wouldn't understand"

Yep, that's an old Digger body back there.

And for what it's worth, the 181 is a distant relative of the Kubelwagen.

Just Zach 06-06-2007 10:50 PM

Now that's something I never thought I would see here, nice job as always.

Echodawg 06-07-2007 12:59 AM

Nice job so far and unique too but man they are ugly.

LumTheMad 06-07-2007 05:33 AM

So this is what boredom has come to, huh?
Looks good.

Some of you guys must be young. Those "Things" were common in the '70's.

If you're familiar with air-cooled VW's, the mechanical layout is pretty similar.

It was basically Germany's Jeep in WWII.

Volkswagen's factory designation was "Type 181".

In the German Army it was known as the "Kubelwagen".

That is a pretty close approximation, microgoat - nice job!!

Was wondering when you were going to post this up over here... Really enjoying the project, cannot wait to see its completion.

microgoat 06-07-2007 05:20 PM

The outside of the body has a full coat of epoxy now. I need to do the inside, then go back over the outside with a finish coat, and start sanding it.

Norcal crawler 06-07-2007 05:40 PM

Interesting. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done. "thumbsup"

brushlessnut 06-07-2007 06:23 PM

this has to be one of the best bodys yet
