Diaz Design elliptical springs

what do you guys think of these springs? i'm going to make a set before i go home and try and put them on my truck to night. i think i will need to run links on it as well..

I like em. Are they gonna be the same material?

Harley 07-10-2007 05:50 PM

They may need to be a little thicker to support the wieght. With only one "side" for the spring action it will need the extra material to resist the bending action.

i was thinking about doing something like that:
personnaly didnt care for it much.

diaz , I have been thinking of buildin' an new Sclale rig . I miss havin' my Jeep (Jacked Up)around . the new build I'm thinkin' about wouldbe a truggy type hard cab ,frame to the back of the cab and tubes on back . I was think of doing elliptical rear and coil front . this might just be what it takes for me to start the build . need a tester :-P

Yours is nothing like eleptical springs that he's designing.

Looks good Diaz, I was wondering when someone would make these. All elepticals need links to keep them centered.

obijuan 07-10-2007 10:33 PM

how? i did a 3/4 his is 1/4. i just added 1/2, its in a similar category in my opinion.

H3RESQ 07-10-2007 10:56 PM

3/4 is self retaining, but definitailly needs a traction bar.
1/4 needs a 4link to keep it under a vehicle.
Big diff to me.

Both are unpopular in hardcore wheeling due to poor climbing ability's + other issue's

Diaz's design of them will be great for scale builds though.

Basically eliptical suspension is most popular for Ramp contests. LOL.

don't forget <JMO>

diaz, i think you mean 1/4 elliptic springs. i started building a leaf sprung scaler with your soft leaves on the front and steel 1/4s on the rear. it worked well but i gave up on it. the performance of leaves just doesnt do anything for me.

Thats a buggy leaf, Not elliptical;-)

You will definitely need to run some type of links, A trackbar and a panhard would be best imo.

call them what you want :) half springs, 1/4, etc. here's a couple of shots. any thoughts, input or ideas would be great

STANG KILLA SS 07-11-2007 12:17 PM

add some 4 link bars and i think the potention for greater flex over a standard leaf is definatly there"thumbsup"

what would happen if you flipped them over? with the bow facing down?

ddiaz10240 07-11-2007 12:19 PM

i will add a 4-link or maybe a 3 link

Jamus 07-11-2007 08:47 PM

Once you add the 4-link, or 3 or whatever, put shackles between the leaf eye and the axle. That's how it's done on 1:1 suspension like that.

Check out this page for some ideas on how they ARE used in hardcore rock crawling http://www.proffittscruisers.com/crawlers.html

I think four link is the ticket with a limited shackle on the axle.
