Scale shocks that don't suck! Help

Can anyone point me in the right direction here? tlt shocks look Ok, and the size looks ok, but bottom line they are damn near worthless.... There must be an alternative. Help.

Internal Spring Shock

IF YOU LOOK ON RC4WD.COM THEY HAVE INTERNAL SPRING SHOCK. THET DO LOOK VERY SCALE. THEY ALSO HAVE LITTLE SHOCK BOOTS TO ADD TO THE EFFECT. HERE IS A LINK
http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=638"thumbsup"

rock runt 01-05-2008 09:34 PM

Thanks for the link, I've seen those. Do they work? Looking for a testamonial, or a solid recomendation from someone who has used a good working scale shock"thumbsup"

Sadly tlt's are you're best bet, and yes they are worthless.
I've been looking for some also and there is just nothing on the market. The closest thing I've found are losi shocks. They are slightly smaller in diameter than your standard shock and they are also the best performing shocks on the market, but they can get pretty pricey too.

tlt shocks

Yeah I hear ya,tlt shocks blow.I have tried to use them on every scaler I've built but never had any luck with them.I turned em down, put dual rate springs on em and still they suck.On my Bruiser Bronco I used a set of RC One 3.5" shocks. They really don't look all that scale but they work awesome. On a heavy scaler with a 4 link I find a light spring with heavy oil works good.On the Toyota truggy I'm building I would like to try a set of the rc4wd scale shocks w/remote reservoirs.Maybe ditch the external spring for an internal one?Anyone run these?Searching.........

I run rc4wd scale shocks on the back of my Chino Clone, Sometimes they stick a lil bit, but I think thats because with the internal spring you dont run a full body of oil and I think the seals get a lil dry. Other then that, I think they work and look good.

Thanks for the replys guys.

Obijuan, Do you run oil in those? I made a few like that, but they were just friction.

Can you tell us how you made those on the bottom? What you used etc. And if they have oil in them.

Thanks

obijuan 01-07-2008 05:09 PM

yeah here you go guys, its really easy.

parts:

traxxas rod end X2
tlt silver thing
stampede rear shock shaft(long)
tlt black thingy
tlt brass bushing

ok its filled with wheel bearing/ujoint grease and leaks less than a regular tlt shock! but it still leaks out.

first drill out that black thing so the brass bushing is a press fit, very tight.
then press that black/brass bushing thing you just made into the shock body, set it on something and hammer it in, it will be tough with out that.
then the pede shock shaft is two eclips and no piston on it.
then insert the the shaft into the shock body, then squirt some grease in it.
put the traxxas rod end in it and crimp it with some pliers.
put the other rod end on it. cycle it a bunch to get it circulated or something.

repeat!

I just ordered 4 - 100mm and 2 - 80mm for a Hi Lift build. Should have them by the end of the week hopefully, boots don't ship until Jan 10. I can let you know how the quality seems then.

i made some shocks like that obijaun, but i just put enough oil in to lube it, then i found some springs for the inside. they work greeat.

I run both RC4WD shocks on my scaler. Internal spring(minus the spring) in the front and piggyback in the rear. The truck doesn't have much articulation, but the shocks cycle freely. The work good and look great! I just wish the piggybacks had softer springs.

Cool vid. Looks like they worked well. What wt oil did you run in them? How heavy is the rig? Most of my scalers run about 6 oz of weight in the wheels and I have tried 30-1000wt oil in the tlt shocks and they ALWAYS leak. New or old I cant keep the oil in them. Everyone I know has the same problem.

Only set I have seen hold oil was Chino's FJ, but the shocks were angled foward on the front of his bruiser frame, for whatever reason with the combo of that angle and leaf springs they didnt leak

I add teflon tape to the tlt shock body cap threads and that seems to hold the oil in pretty good. With out the teflon tape the oil leaks right out the top.
