Default Maui Crawlers... Aloha

Wassup Maui Crawlers,

I値l be visiting Maui for work from tomorrow the 7th until Sunday the 13th. I値l be mostly busy doing stuff for work, but I値l have Wednesday and most of Saturday off. I値l be there to do some GPS surveys on Haleakala. I am staying in Kahului at the Maui Seaside.

Anyway I値l be bringing my crawler so if any of you can meet up let me know. I知 not sure when I値l be able to get internet access while I知 there but as soon as I do I値l check in this forum for replies. Or I can trade phone numbers in a pm. Or you can call Maui Seaside and leave one message for my room, but I won't be checking in untill late Monday afternoon.

Right on guys, I hope we can meet up and do some crawling.

Well I did get to do some crawling with the Maui crawlers. They utilize the harbor lights and crawl at night for their GTGs. Have a look see

I also managed to get them to pose for a picture. Going from Left to Right: Joe, Kali's daughter, Garett (Island Hobbies owner), and my self.

Here are a few pictures from one of my work sites, Lualailua in the Kahikinui area on the south side of Haleakala. This is also right across the street from an ancient Hawaiian rock quarry.

As you Maui Locals know, there are a lot of steep cliffs and large drops in that area. Here are a few pictures showing the lava tube that my truck fell into and the damage that resulted. In this first picture it's a little hard to make out the bottom of my truck but it's there.

That's about 25ft down. That full grown wiliwili tree is how I was able to climb down to retrieve my truck.

And here is the damage:

This one shows the alignment job and the fact that the rear axle is also bent.

Well I had a blast on Maui. Thank you to Island Hobbies for hooking me up with some other crawlers. I was there for work so that was cool that we could do a crawl at night to not interfere with my work schedule. On that work note, we did successfully complete our survey of Haleakala and we are processing our gps data right now. Oh... I just found out that the area I did my work and crawling is now in the Honolulu Star Bulletin.

My wife and I plan on going there in the early part of next year, this time for vacation, so hopefully we can crawl again.

Thanks again Maui,

Kevan

Thanks,

Well....the drop... I guess that's just part of this hobby. I was about 10ft from the edge but when it rolled the truck just slid on its lid until it went off. I was so stunned at what was happening that I didn't even react.

I ordered my new parts today so that I can get ready for our comp at the end of the month.
