Default New a123 M1 loose cells

Looking for fresh a123 M1 cells but don't want to hack up a Dewalt pack? I get factory fresh cells, in any qty you desire. These are my personal favorite for short distance packs. The cells are light, have a high discharge rate, and take quite the abuse. The quality control and consistency between cells is the best in the business.

up to 60C burst (138 Amps) (I recommend using them at 25C max)
62mm by 27mm
75 grams
Chargeable in as little as 15 minutes
2300mah
3.3v nominal per cell

Order them direct here, $15.50 each : http://holmeshobbies.com/product.php...&cat=22&page=1

For orders over 48 cells, I can give discounts. PM me here or send an email through my site.

a123 1100 cells also available

3.3V 1100mAh (cell/no tabs) 30C/60C
Rating: 30C (33.0A) continuous, 60C (66.0A) burst
Dimension: 18mm x 65mm
Weight: 40 grams
Termination: Cell only with PVC wrap

Thank you,
JRH

I can. They would be useful for us I reckon. I will check it out and possibly put them on the site this afternoon.

Do you know if there are any of these cells close to the size of 2/3a cell??

The 1100 cell is 18mm x 65mm. 1mm larger in diameter than 2/3a, and just a smidge longer than two cells in a row.

Gonna add them to the website now, I can get them drop shipped within 24hrs of ordering.

I have many products that I can get, especially batteries. I just choose not to spread my store and inventory too thin sometimes.

Glad I waited to buy a 3S LiPo for my comp rigs, I've been wanting to go to this cell.
My Triton 2 charges Li-ion so it should charge these right? These are the same thing as what's in the Dewalt packs?

Yes, they are the same as the dewalt cells.

They take a special charge algorithm though, you need a123 or LiFePO4 charging. For 2 or 4 cell packs you can charge as 6v or 12v lead acid, but a 3 cell pack is an odd voltage and must use 3s LiFe charging.

Oh, some of the CO guys said I can charge the Dewalt cells on a standard charger. Maybe they were just talking about 2 and 4 cell packs.
I'll look at my manual.

My Dewalt pack for the cordless drill charges in like 15min, maybe I'll just solder on a deans connector to the charger.

Ty was charging them as 3 cells on a Triton and popped alot of them too!! He started building just 2 cell packs and then putting one in as a jumper and had better luck then I believe.

Good to know Pat, thanks. Guess I'll have to decide if 2 cell is enough and if 4 cell is too much.

I read the manual. When charging LiPo or LiIon you set the battery capacity and the exact battery voltage. The charger chooses the amperage. Sounds like the cc/cv system isn't a good idea.
From the manual.

Notes about charging LiPo and Li-Ion batteries:
• Triton2 automatically sets the charge current based on the battery’s 1C rating. Therefore, it is very important to enter the battery’s exact rated capacity (in mAh) in the programming. For example, if a capacity of 600mAh is entered Triton2 will set the charge current at 0.6A (600mA). For a capacity setting of 2500mAh, the charge current will be set to 2.5A (2500mA). If you do not change the factory default battery capacity value, Triton2 will charge the battery as if it’s rated at 350mA (0.35A).
• LiPo and Li-Ion batteries are charged using the “constant current / constant voltage” process (cc/cv). Constant current is delivered during the first part of fast charge. As the battery reaches a pre-set voltage (4.0V for Li-Ion, 4.1V for LiPo), Triton2 shuts off constant current and starts to apply a constant voltage. As the battery’s voltage equalizes to the output voltage of the charger, the charge current will drop to approx. 1/10 of the charge current setting, at which time all charging will stop automatically as the battery is fully charged.

TOO MUCH!! I did not think that would ever come out of your mouth

Hey JRH, Is there anyway you could put 4 of these a123's side beside one of your 9cell 2/3a packs and post a picture. I have also been looking to change to these cells, I am just lazy and do not want to change my battery mount if I needed to make it bigger:-P If ya can't no biggy, I will just wait till Griz buys them and take a peak at his

Piggybacker....:-P I didn't know you were running a 9cell 2/3A pack also. It's just not giving me enough poop in the mini-clod.

Yeah I have been running them for almost a year now, I really like them alot. I run them in my comp rig and my scaler. I can re-gear to compensate for the extra voltage, the charging time is what really has me interested.
The main thing that has stopped me so far is dropping more $$ on a new charger. I have a MRC 989 that says it will do 1-8 cell Lithium ion/lithium polymer and 6-24v lead acid/gell cell batteries. I would assume that a 4 cell could be done? I know I can pick what charge rate and cut off for any battery. I did not know about the lead acid charging.

JRH--Could I get away with not buying a new charger? Here is a link to the manual. I know very little when it comes to these.

Mr. Holmes, I would like to get some of these and charge them with my A123 charger. Do you know the correct way to wire them to charge with it?

Grizz and 666,

The batts that Ty has (they are the cells I gave him, and gave you guys too) are Milwaukee cells. They E-Moli cells, they are similar to the a123's but they are a different cell. They have completely different charging voltages, peak voltages, capacity, etc. If you try and charge them the same as an a123 one of them is going to blow up. The E-Moli cells should be charged as a Li-po since the peak voltage percell is the exact same between the two cells. At first we were charging the 3 cell E-Moli's as 12V Lead Acid batteries, they charged for a couple cycles and then would blow up, charge them as a li-po and they are perfectly fine you just don't get 100% capacity. Hope that clears things up.

Also, the a123's are badass and are a lot better than the E-Moli's. I've been running both of them for over a year now and they are both great but the a123's are better.
