Length of all wires - stock, measured (by a multimeter) at the esc's 3 pin rx plug. I can't measure directly form the board because I've got the waterproof version. There couldn't be any mistakes in the measurement method, because I compared everything (same setup) with Castle CC BEC and BEC Pro right away - no voltage sag on those two.
I've removed the little white sticker during assembly, because the esc worked and I didn't expect any problems with it. I'll try to check inside (hope the waterproof version has it).
The most disappointing thing is that this esc was chosen for Twin Hammers just because it has a good internal BEC and there would have been no need to install external unit (twin hammers is a bit short of space inside).
Now the car runs with a Castle CC BEC with no problems.

Runs great on Holmes TrailMaster 27T.

Regardless of what others might say, in my world there are just two kinds of people. Those who run external BEC's and those who will in the future.

The internal bec is only useful to servos with 250oz or less.. (John can correct me if I am wrong). Once you use a servo with more torque, and external bec is needed.

I have my brxl in the exact same position as you, I have the rx and bec stacked behind the esc. Everything fits without any issue.

I run ALL my cars with external Castle CC BECs, and this was the first one that I tried without (just because enough power was stated for the internal bec).

I'm fully aware that high power servos can produce large current spikes up to 7 amps during extreme momentary loads (when you hit a rock on high speed), but that's nothing to do with the internal bec not meeting the manufactures specifications.
I have no idea how well BR-XLs internal bec is made (the esc is waterproofed, I don't want to remove the compound just to check), but mine behaves as if it is a typical 6V 1A, that you would normally get in "sidewinder style" (5V 1A) esc.
Talking about servo torque, it will not pull even a 201oz AE DS1015.
I've waterproofed a Castle CC bec, I've put it in the car, it runs great, I like it. But that's not what I was paying for when getting a BR-XL.

Thanks for the info on your measures. I'll start pulling escs and see if we have a Bec issue. We use an inductor in a buck converter, basically the same parts used on the castle Bec.

My guess is when the servo pulls a power spike directly from the battery via an external bec, it's less likely to trigger the LVC circuit in the esc compared to the same event through an internal bec.

From what I've seen, no esc maker should promote his product for also running big servos. A few people get away with it. Not many.

I had the same problems on my BR-XL in my Ax10, with a digital PowerHD 16kg servo. The esc shut down, when I turned left/right rapidly a few times when driving. I had to let go of the throttle, then the esc turned back on.
I have unfortunately sold my rig, but I'm planning to buy a new rig and a new waterproof BR-XL. It would have been nice if you could adress the problem

Oh no, another one... That doesn't look too good. :(((
I'm assembling a custom truck right now, and wanted to get a second BR-XL for it. Also wanted to check the BEC on it, because I had an idea that maybe I was just unlucky and got a bad one (everything is possible in this life!). But now...
I really like this ESC and will buy a second one, and recommend it to all my friends, if mr. Holmes will guarantee that these ESCs meet the stated specs.

Should also mention that the esc I had these issues with, was bought from a dealer here in Norway, spring/summer 2012.

Howdy
I just picked up a new BRXL from TCS - love it!
I was just curious if this has been released yet, and if so where could I snag the firmware? Also, do you have it listed anywhere what current firmware is and what each revision changed?
Thanks!

I run 2 BRXL esc's with only the top part if the case removed.
My smash is not small but it is compact. 50mm x 50mm x 40mm
I do not run or use the inboard BEC. lets face it most of us run a CC BEC.
So why even bother with the inboard one.
Both my Holmes Hobbies BR XL ESC'S run faultlessly
