Basic Tech specs of the motor

When you have a need for power that isn't satisfied by normal brushed motor, it is time to step it up a notch with a precision built Handwound! The Holmes Hobbies Crawlmaster 540 is a hand built "540" with the finest parts and construction techniques available. Our building team for these motors has a combined 50 years of experience, the most experienced in the world for the humble 540! We guarantee the finest and most up to date construction on our motors. If you want something a more custom than what you see here, simply contact us. We are happy to build you exactly what you need.

* Hand-Wound Armature – Each armatures are hand wound to your order by professionals. We use carefully selected wire gauges for peak power and torque. Each armature is epoxy resin encapsulated, terminated with high temp silver alloys, and dynamically balanced with epoxy (at no extra charge) for peak torque and efficiency. There is no better armature than ones made with care by Holmes!


* Standup Brush and 7.5mm Comm- Maximizes power and motor longevity
* Gold plated copper brush hood to resist corrosion and provide lowest resistance
* 5 slot armature- offers the finest low speed control
* Can – 1.4mm thick can features minimal venting and two high-power FB9 wet magnets to maximize torque and efficiency
* Dual Ball bearings
* Adjustable timing
* 0.55mm extra Heavy springs for consistent drag brake
* Neutrally timed for no risk of improper installation

All Kv measurements taken at zero timing, no load, and 3100 rpm.
13t- 2250Kv
16t- 1850Kv
20t- 1500Kv estimated
28t- 1250kv estimated
32t- 1110Kv

Here is the no hype, no fluff bottom line-

Low speed resolution like no other brushed motor, even the Cobalt Puller!

I have been testing a set of 13.5t in my XR10 since Nats this year, and I have been very pleasantly surprised all around. They run right at the same speed as a 27t, but I can run them on 4s lipo and still have plenty of low speed crawl. And I do mean PLENTY! With stock gearing on the XR10 I do not have to engage Holmes Hold, standard drag brake is plenty to slow down the rig. While they are not as punchy as the TorqueMaster 540 counterpart, there is more than enough power to break parts.

So what does it add up to? While they may not be for everybody, I won't be running three slot arms in most of my 540 motors now. These are just too dang smooth!

If you are looking for the 16 or 13t, place the order as a "custom" wind to get ahead of the pack. We don't have any back orders for them and should have stock of 13t in about a week.

Is it possible to get a matched set of 16T for a Berg? Also, what is the 20T equal to, a 45T?

16s are all gone. We have another batch already started and should have then done in a few days.

The 20t is about the same or a touch slower than a normal 35t motor. The 16t is a touch hotter, the 20t a touch slower. The reasons I chose those two winds was to optimize wire fill. Anything in between is just a waste of space and is less powerful.

We can do speed matched sets for you, but until we get ahead enough to have 40+ motors in stock on the shelf we can't dyno power match them like we do with the TorqueMasters. In all honesty you probably won't know the difference.

I have to say that these are absolutely amazing motors - running the 20ts and low end is just superb...

They are a hair slower than my old 35t's but easier on the micro pros.

I can tell you that they accualy are easier on your esc, and battery! John has told me that they take less to get started going compared to a normal 3 slot arm!

I was referring to the 16t over the 20t... Looks like I might upgrade the Super soon so I can always try the 16ts

Just finished up another 25 motors. 16t and 13t are inventory refreshed. The only ones out of stock are the 32t, and we are winding more now.


We are also winding some extra arms too, starting with 16t and 28t.

Any chance I'd be able to fit a set of these 5 pole armatures in checkpoint cans? If so how much would a pair of arms cost?

I picked up a set of 20 turns from John's hands personally yesterday at the MO championship and then I won one more in the raffle, it was a great day
