mine arrived john, is it possible to replace the two capacitors by a single ? it will be easier to compact thanks Last edited by pat13; 09-08-2013 at 10:38 AM. |

Never run a cap so far from the board, it needs to be tied as tight to the power rails as possible. Currently I recommend one cap for each Esc. Testing and measuring at nats gave great info on the escs. The two Esc problem isn't a problem. The issue turned out to be a glitch in Holmes hold. So rock on! Just don't use hold until the next firmware. The internal Bec heat hasn't caused a real issue yet, but we will post a mod guide for people that want to have super cool temps. |

Also a big thanks for the killer motors and buttery smooth BRSL's that took the 2.2Pro title this weekend. Great products man. Look forward to updates in the not too near future. Cheers, J | |

I will be posting a full tech and wiring guide shortly, hope to finish it this week. Did further testing on the BEC mod and it does not work with an external BEC above 6.4v as the brain voltage source gets hot. I will have a zener diode available to pull down higher BEC voltages, so people running 7.4v BECs can still push power into the internal BEC to reduce temps a bit. On the same note, an external BEC set to 6.1v and powering the RX wires allows the ESC to run cool without any other work. Wiring diagrams in post 2. I'm thinking I'm going to take your advice. Warm ESC's, warm heart, happy feelings. Looking forward to getting them installed. Thanks JRH, J |

Yeah, just wire it and drive it. unless your into a lot of effort to solve a problem that hasn't happened yet.

Ya lost me a touch on modded an unmodded.. but.. I pulled the power wire from the esc to the rx and run a external bec at 7.4v.. I wired it straight to the board, close! Benefit from this? The esc cap protects the bec without a cap. But I notice some heat after putting a pack thru an especially after a few packs.. it seems to be more from the bec then the esc. Any thoughts on it over heating the esc? Better just to remove it from the "smash"? Let it go an run the crap out of it like i have been!? Working amazing! Its in my sporty with a Team pro crawl 13t stage 4 LW an ceramic bearings.. Ridiculous! |

You lost me too. I think I am going to wait for the wiring guide.

Wire it like you would any other ESC. Don't think any certain way to be "wrong", but there are degrees of hacking I will show for those seeking small gains. winner, just run it like it is. I probably shouldn't have said anything about the tweaker options of wiring this thing |

Got main hooked up yesterday runs smooth got a little warm but going to try it out at local camp to night if the rain holds out. it set up with out a bec seems to work just fine. |

Post two is updated with wiring diagrams. I am waiting on diodes arrive for testing, as illustrated in the cool 2 diagram. It will be best to wire the diode to power the RX and backfeed into the ESCs brain to reduce heat. If we don't also power the RX through the diode there will be an issue getting enough current to kick on the 6.2v output. With these wiring choices we won't have to rip off the internal BEC chip, but Cool 1 and Cool 2 will also work if the BEC has been removed. |

I don't know who's right, but I had a couple calls yesterday with Burney at Castle tech support and he would say none of those are acceptable. He really wants me to use the ext BEC for everything and totally disconnect the esc-bec. His reasoning seems to be that if there is any interaction between the built in linear esc-bec and the digital ext bec they will chafe on each other and the linear being more robust will eventually wipe out the external. In your regular sketch which was the same as we were discussing he thinks that running the yellow wire from the servo to RX causes conflicts in the grounds which will eventually damage the bec. I don't pretend to understand it, so have no opinion. But you two undoubtedly speak the same language so if you think there's any merit to it, maybe talk to Burney.

Bernie always errs on the side of caution. I didn't include the regular way of removing the red wire and powering RX via external BEC, but it is also an option. With the external BEC set to 6.1 or 6.2v there is no interaction, the internal BEC does no work. I always strap ground to all devices. You can see I route ground from external BEC to RX. This ensures ground reference is proper as possible on all devices. |

I was curious about the diode or resistor option.. Although hear isn't an issue for me so I may just rock it stock

Should the red line from the ESC to receiver be deleted from the two cool options or drawn differently to signify that it's not providing power? Just a thought. How hard is it to install a ZD? Thanks John, J |

No, the power is backfed through the red wire to keep the ESCs internal BEC regulator from doing work. 6.1 to 6.4v has tested to be an acceptable range. Zeners for testing should be here today. Installation is easy, solder it inline. Last edited by JohnRobHolmes; 10-22-2013 at 05:23 PM. |
