Thanks for the write up! I would like to note that Will is using the wires to support the boards on the motor wire side. If wires are ran externally, foam or other soft item is recommended on the motor side to keep them apart and free from flex.

Ah, learning a new CAD program. Been there done that. Have fun. Thanks for the update.

Ok I did the ZD (6.2v)mod.. bec set @ 7.4v (servo)
Voltage out from ZD was 6.8v (RX) to achieve 6.4v I would have to reset bec to 7volts. (Don't want to do this).
So I'm going to run the br mini's just like any othe dual esc's.

Will 6.8v hurt the br esc's ?

I have a matched set of old school cobalt puller 400 13t motors that are brand new, chilling in a box.
I'm building something that will be using berg gears and a 11t pinion. 3s for power. Probly 450mah or 600mah packs.
My question is, do you think there will be a problem running these motors on a pair of BR minis? Was planning on wiring them up conventionally, no diode mod of chip removal.
Just run the BEC to the servo, and let the BEC on the Mini run the receiver.
I have a pair of sidewinder micros that I was thinking about smashing and running these 400 pullers with. Not sure they will handle the motors though.
I was told they are a VERY wicked motor.

HolmesHobbies - I just got my BR Mini in the mail last night. Do I need to worry about heat issues using this with a Punk Switch? I will be using a CC BEC with this and it's set at 6.5v, Will this be ok or should I bring it down to 6.2 or 6.3v. -Glenn

Should be no problem at all.

Those are 20% tolerance parts, check through a few of them as the output voltage will vary quite a bit. You will need to put a load on it for the voltage measurement to be reliable, so power up the RX.

There should be no issues using a Punk switch. If you plan to overvolt the ESC brains too, drop down to 6.2v.

Ok guys I ran these BR-minis stock no ZD mod Just like any other smashed esc combo....At our WCRCC season opener temps after ea course follow below.... had no issues with them @ all.
113*
102*
136*
112*
126*

After the comp I ran 2pks with only 1-2mins between packs. The hottest temp was 140* (comp style practice)

I'm getting the same results. They do FEEL HOT after a full pack, but at no time have I seen them above 140*. I'm using an infrared temp gun directed straight at the boards...not through any other material.

What is the difference if you use a BRXL with the case? Does it also get as hot?

Not sure what exactly you're asking?

From what I understand, the mini BRXL is the same as the full size except without the case. Does the full size version gets as hot?

The BR Mini is a scaled down version of the BRXL. It is quite a bit smaller, doesn't have the 2 on board capacitors, doesn't come with a case, and doesn't come with a heat sink.

You can buy the BRXL in a case with a heat sink, OR you can buy it without either of those as the BRSL. These "full size" equivalents don't run hot, or at least they never did in my experiences.

The full size runs cooler, mostly because of the huge digital bec inside.

Sorry for the question on the difference between the mini and full size version. This is the Process/Quality Engineer in me talking.

I don't own a mini but planning to get two for my Berg. But I do own a few of the BRXL that I am using on my Jeep Willis, Wraith and scalers"

Just trying to figure out if something works before, why are we having issues. Now it's making sense. I was actually going to also ask about adding cooling fins/heats ink but it seems that the issue is with the caps and the mini not having internal BEC.

Again, sorry for the question.

Nobody has actually had an issue yet, it is just warmer running than people are used to.
