I always thought a higher kV provided more top end, not torque...correct me if I am mistaken please JRH.

Brushless motors don't care about KV in relation to torque, at any given voltage the higher KV can draw more wattage and produce more torque until saturation is reached. At this point, it doesn't matter what KV or voltage, the motor is being stalled. So when somebody needs more torque, its MORE voltage or KV and MORE geardown to get there. Volt up / gear down is practically the same thing as KV up / gear down. |

Thank you for the explanation...I have been under false impressions regarding kV. I have been trying to figure out whether I get the PP 3500 or PP 2200 and now that I have been schooled, it will be the 3500 motor for me.

From a practical standpoint you can multiply kv x voltage and select the highest kv value within your speed range that won't be faster than max rpm of the rotor. If that doesn't satisfy, a longer motor or larger esc or larger battery will be next steps.

Thank you for the help. I am not sure what the final ratio is on that transmission. I think I will get the longer can in a higher kv. The batteries are brand new max amps 100 2250mah. I know there good.

So far I have 2 U4 races with my 3500xl under my belt. My first race, my esc was glitchy and I realized later it was the sensor wire. Last week, I had full power (no current limit set on rx8 gen2), 15/64 gearing, 3s 50-100c, and WOW WOW WOW!!!! Seriously, if you want just insane power, there ya go! RAW power! It was way too much for my noob driving, but after tuning it down quite a bit, it's still fast and now I can manage it (kind of).

is there a big difference in the lower kv motors than say a 3500kv? my wraith isnt that heavy and im not looking to break any land speed records, but i would like to crawl very slow and smooth.

Glad to hear the power is where you want it Quote:
Speed difference, yes. If you want to just crawl, the 2200kv range is great for that. It will be about the same speed as a 27t stock motor. The 2700kv is more like a stock 20t motor in the wraith. The 3500kv offers a great mix of rock racing and crawling, especially if you dump the stock gearing and gear it back down to stock speed. 2700kv on stock gearing vs 3500kv on lower gearing, the 3500kv setup would perform better in every way. Same for 2200kv on stock gearing vs 2700 with geardown, the setup with more reduction and higher kv (or higher voltage) will outperform in every aspect.

cool thanks..so iguess it just makes sense to get the 3500 and gear it down...and have the speed in case i ever want it

yep. Especially if you like the speed of stock. You can gear it down to that speed, or leave gearing alone and have the ability to crawl AND jump stuff.

I just put in an order for a Puller Pro 540 3500kv and the ESC! I'm excited to start my new project soon. I was wondering, when I looked at the options to buy the motor individually it gave an option for the motor to get waterproofed, but there was no option like that in the combo deal. Still, I thought brushless motors were waterproof? What difference would that make? |

The sensor is not water proof. They are sealed better than a brushed motor but if water gets on the sensor its gonna run bad.

Combos are fixed for offering waterproofing. Thanks for the heads up. The main problem area is behind the sensor port where the solder points are close together. Signals bleed into each other.

| Re: Puller Pro Brushless 4 pole Sensored motors- Lays down the Power! Can you give me a heads up on how you do it since I didn't have the option and likely it wouldn't have been mailed to me that way? I don't plan on going into water, but you never know. You can PM it to me so we don't derail this thread too much.

The home method is basically just take the motor apart and put sensor safe RTD on any bare solder you see on the sensor board. Dielectric grease in the plug is good too.

Got my 3500kv and esc today...if anyone is on the fence about these motors , trust me,make the jump. Stock gearing on a wraith kit this thing is smooth and slow when u need it and llets just say im gonna need metal gears soon cause this thing also has alot of power. I might need some help with setup. Im keeping it mainly for crawling and very light slow trailz. Any specific settings i should so with the castle link? I feel like it has more potential, im just not sure how to get it out. Thanks again for fast shipping and awesome products. |
