Just got a brick of billet to start work on the next lines of Puller motors! The Puller 500, Puller 540, and Puller Stubby will be filling in the void of the old Cobalt Puller line. I've been plugging away at protos for three years now, had CAD files for two years now, and finally solved some of the issues that were hanging up the final development. It only took a few thousand dollars of mistakes, about a hundred hours of labor, 30 hours of studying and formula crunching, and a shelf full of useless motors. Easy right! I've been keeping it on the down low for a reason, I didn't want to turn this into another sensored outrunner thread! For manufacturing speed the first few motors will have a delrin face while I tune in the magnet assembly. Now I just have to narrow down the final design between 4 magnet combinations and two layouts each. Only 8 combinations left They will all work, but the proof is in the testing and not the theory. I know the best two to start with at least. |

Testing I can do, understanding how and why motors work, I leave that up to you. |

Coming right up sir! Ding Ding! About 3 more hours left on my machine and I'll be able to schedule the most current faceplates. I should start Saturday or Friday, best estimate. |

After you get the motor going. Since your starting with a clean slate could you install 2 studs out of the can for a battery mount? OR you could mount a piece of plastic on the bottom of the motor with screws and it could be a motor protector/battery mount. Thanks Matt

Ya know, I've never bought a high end motor because I've always found satisfaction in the integys but these new motors might just change my mind lol

Make sure you make them so you can replace the bearings |

Checking the file structure and tolerances on the new 500. I didn't have the right thickness of Delrin so I used plexi. So far so good! I'll shoot for completing a few complete protos this week.

Will we need 1/8" pinions, 5mm, or have the option to choose?

The 500 and TTC versions will have 1/8" pinions on the initial design. The Pro Puller (brushless) will have either 5mm or 1/8", not even sure if a hardened 1/8" shaft would take the power without snapping.

New pullers coming I think I might peepee on myself. I freakin loved the old pullers and have been waiting for these new ones since I cant remember now I can complete my three new rigs. Once I got my hands on some of those old pullers from a few guys that had stocked up on them in my crawler group I wont use anything else. Then they all got worn out and died and I stopped crawling for about 8 months cause I didnt have any working pullers. that just how awesome those pullers were and I am sure these new ones will be even better. I cannot wait to get some of these new ones and get back crawling with my son again.

I love it when math shows the way First "500" brushed proto is assembled. Flux density increase of 2.6 times over FB9 magnets. Weight loss on can vs a 540 is 1.5 ounces, HEAVY version. Two ounce overall loss will be very easy with the finalized endbell and faceplate, and likely more with the lighter version of can. With specialized armatures the detent force is LOWER than a standard TorqueMaster, so the startup will also be better. With the flux density increase we should see a speed reduction of about 2x as well, which means our "35t" will have to be about a 17t for the same speed. That will reduce the armature resistance by half for any given speed, and reduce armature heating for a given power level by 4x. In laymans terms this means peak torque and continuous power will increase until we hit the limits of the brushes. Now I go have lunch, balance some armatures, throw some more programs on the CNC, glue in magnets, and get ready to test the Io and Kv! I will easily be able to build a 4 ounce version that is better than a regular 540 at this point. So that means I'll be building a 3 ounce version too It won't have nearly the power of my sensored outrunners, but its gonna be hard to beat brushed until we can catch up on brushless ESCs. |
