Got confirmation that we are getting air shipment on the magnets with my fancy pants idea to make them into "motor parts". That will give us enough mags for 100 motors, so there are 65 available beyond the current wait list. If you want to be added, send an email to me. If I can get ahold of the right hardware in time we will start making V5 cans, in the mean time v4 will be produced. Besides a slight drop in weight, the big benefit to v5 cans is a 4x reduction in labor time- my in house bottleneck.

Also have a new style armature coming that will allow for stronger magnets without making startup unusable. It should ship from Japan in about a week.

Another set for a happy driver!

Same specs as the red endbell pair.

Puller 500 Flow SL
35t medium wire
10mm comm
Standup Copper Brush
33EH magnets

We have new parts coming to test the 500 Torque edition. It will feature slightly higher weight for better torque and drag characteristics. Startup will be more abrubt as well.

Can I have a set with pink pieces on the end please....

I honestly do not think I have seen a better looking motor. The whole thing just looks killer.

Thanks! I worked a long time to get the design balanced with lightness and strength.

Here is a new armature for testing, Puller 540 Flow type. This is a 15t, wire is 16.5ga. KV is a respectable 2300, and startup is very controllable. We can fit wire more into the slot, but the end turns get too tall and hit the can before max fill. Later prototypes have shorter stacks, but startup suffers because of skew limitations. A balance will be found in time.

Looks like I forgot to add the pic in the last post, I'll look for it back at work tomorrow.

Update on Puller 500 magnets. They were sent via boat by "accident" Estimated delivery is beginning of march. I have switched magnet suppliers and will nip this magnet sourcing issue in the bud. We didn't have issue until we started ordering them in the 1000s, which is the opposite of how factories normally work. Order more, get better service. This time it is order more, wait (X^magnet volume)/(PH of water in kalamazoo*secretary's coffee temp)

I'm sure the wait, while tough on you and us, is going to be well worth it.

I have some extra downtime and parts to build Puller TTC and Puller 520s, whilst we wait on magnets for the 500 series. Only a few available, get em while they are hot! Holmes Hobbies LLC

Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for building time so we can ensure they are just perfect!

What is the main defference in the stubby to the 500 other than weight?

John's crew rebuilt a 7T Puller for me a few weeks ago and it came out great! I paid for a rebuild and sent my motor in and they took care of the rest. It's super easy!

Magnets finally arrived (via boat even though I specified air) and we can begin building 500s again. I also had a spare minute and built up a proto 510 Puller. Large pankake style rotor. Equal speed and terminal resistance to a 540 motor, only 3.75 ounces Next week I will go through all the motor builds on my new drag dyno so performance changes will be empirically comparable.

To get the basic Puller 510 rotor design I worked backwards from known variables to arrive at a motor with the same speed and terminal resistance as a regular 540 motor. Whenever a motor is shortened, the resistance for specific speed goes up. So if we want 35t speed from a shorter armature, we have to give up drag brake and stall torque because of the higher resistance. Knowing this, I designed the Puller 510 to have equal terminal resistance even though the final motor is shorter and lighter. It is possible because of the larger rotor diameter and stronger magnets.

First pic shows the 510 stumpy armatures in various stages of completion, and 520 stubby armatures too.

510 Puller
28mm diameter rotor
EH33 neo magnets
Integrated flux ring
36mm major diameter
42mm long
3.75 ounce final weight, 106 grams

This motor set was built for Jim Hand, owner of Hand Bros off road. Puller 500 Torque edition. Armatures were matched on inductance, resistance, and weight. Motors were matched on speed with precise commutator sizing and timing adjustment. No load of each motor was 1.1a, very respectable for the tight airgap and lower than regular KV as compared with a normal 540 build.

Puller 500 Torque
262.3g, 10oz for the pair
Ribbed can
35t Fat wire Torque armature, large comm
Holmes Soft Copper brush
Holmes XX Spring
EH33 Neo Magnet

This set of motors also included flux rings for torque and speed adjustment. With heavy flux rings the KV reduced to 18% lower than a regular 540, while still being a full ounce lighter and starting up smoothly. THAT is how motors should be made But all you weight weenies can still have a choice when each gram matters.
