Quiet thread, but busy sales of Puller motors! In the past 12 months we have outfitted almost 1000 puller 400s and 500s into rigs! Even though they are already a potent motor, we always strive for improvements when possible. One thing you will find on new Team Puller motors is finer adjustable timing. As shown, the endbells are now slotted for fine adjustment over 24 degrees. We have been sneaking this improved endbell into team motors for about 6 weeks now, and when the next run of endbells is made all puller models will include the feature.

The next improvement is just in the looks department, but looks matter! As shown here, we have begun working with a company to bring anodizing and better can finishes to the mix. Costs more for us, but not for you! You will find the deep black luster on all Pullers cans from now on, and we will be offering anodized parts very soon. What colors do you want on the faceplate?

Moving forwards into 2015 we have a few big changes coming for easier maintenance and more competitive folks. The first change will be the can assembly. Instead of long cinch screws holding the motor together, we are going back to a traditional short timing screw. After many many hours of design consideration, we have figured out how to accomplish this AND shave 5 grams from the motor without resorting to performance degrading thinning of the back iron. Second change is the brush assembly. The design goal was to increase conductivity without a weight increase, while offering a more compact design. Bonus time, it also seals the motor better from contamination! We will be machining these hoods very soon. Third change isn't really a change, but a return to our roots in offering Cobalt Pullers. While Cobalt magnets are lower in power density, they are more temperature stable than Neo. With three slots this will allow a tighter airgap. This won't be a sweeping change, but an additional option on specific builds because in reality it will reduce power to weight ratio in most installations. Same as brushless motors, if cobalt offered an advantage it would be more common than neo mags. But Cobalt Puller sounds cool! And maybe some people run their motors past 160f, but so far we haven't found those folks in the competitive arena. So let us know if you run them boiling hot and we will have something for you to test! |

Boiling hot? Hows 100-110 outside temp sound? Vegas summers should do the trick with ease! |

I've been using the worst temp rated mags possible in my own rig, n50s. Never gets warm enough to fade when geared right, but startup suffers because the pole tips get driven into saturation. There's a lot more to balancing the magnetic circuit than it seems! It's one reason we can't just throw high strength mags in a regular 540 and expect an improved motor all around. | ||

Sounds fun to me, but we regularly play in stupid heat - so I find it interesting. It's is a balancing act of run time vs chill time. Next time I dona summer run to the "sandbox" I'll let you know, you can add 20 degrees over there on a mild day. |

I have 13t puller's with the large cans. I'm wanting to lose some weight and gain some ground clearance. I'm looking at Team Puller 500 Crawl 13t with 20 gauge wire. For my Bully 2. Is there much of a difference between the old big can and the newer small can with 20 gauge wire? Less drag brake? Less power? |

The new can doesn't affect power or drag, I didn't take away back iron. You will really like the 20g wire option, it is a huge difference over the regular 21g wire.

So we may be able to get more OG Cobalt Pullers made, rumor has it a few hundred cans were found tucked away in a box. We will also get plenty of replacement armatures and brushes if this goes down. If this goes through, what turn would most people want? I would assume 10 turn since that was always the most popular. |

I'd love to have another 7 turn. If not I still love the 10 turns, I just put a bigger pinion on.

10t probably best since it stays cool on 3s and most the guys I scale with run 3s only so that's definitely something to consider. I have a 5t and it runs well on 3s, I just have to run a very small pinion and be cautious about running WOT that often. Last edited by Shinjari; 07-01-2015 at 05:21 PM. |

I'm looking for a new motor for my rig, which Puller 500 would fit best a heavy 1.9 SCX10 for G6 application? 15T ? Also is it possible to order it reversed? (I'm using Currie and I can't move around the transmission) Thanks. Gilles. Last edited by utieh; 10-02-2015 at 08:50 AM. |
