How's the parts availability for this rig - both OE and aftermarket? There's a guy that I see from time to time at my LHS that wants to sell his. It's gently used and he said he'd take $235 for it. My guess is he would not blink if I handed him $220 cash. I like many aspects to this rig, but a tad concerned about parts availability.

That's probably the only stock shortcoming except for the electronics of course. That's why I didn't pay $400 for one.

I'm not sure about the OEM replacement parts, but there is a limited supply of aftermarket parts out there. I'd snatch it up at $220 or even $235 if I were you.

Thanks for the feedback Jato. I'll reach out to the HS - they have the guys number. I'll confirm if I pull the trigger.

So it looks like all the basic OE parts are fairly available online. Amain, RC Planet. That said, couldn't find much of anything aftermarket. STRC makes a few aluminum bits......

SSD makes weighted knuckles and C-hubs. I have both of them on my truck and I'm a big fan. I don't believe the Venture needs any other upgrades except CVDs which HPI is supposed to be releasing soon. They also have brass axle weights on the way.

I don't think HPI's definition of "soon" is the same as mine...lol.

Same here, but my definition of "soon" is "right now, bitch!"

In the spare parts bag that comes with this truck, there are shorter bumper mounts that allow you to slide the bumper in quite a bit more.

Interesting. Thanks for the tip. I just trimmed the mounts on the bumper and got it to where I need. But I wouldn't have had to trim it had I known other mounts were included.

I had off Tuesday and I was able to get in a fairly long trail run with OSRC. It was extremely hot and humid and yellow jackets were everywhere for some reason, but it was much better than being at work.

This will probably be more of a photo update than anything since this truck flat out works well. I don't see it happening without an extreme price drop, but I really hope this truck does start getting the love it deserves both from customers and aftermarket companies. It's a great truck. The only thing it needs is CVDs. As OSRC pointed out to me, you don't really notice steering limitations out on the trails. It only rears its head in tight, technical stuff.

Here's a photo on the bridge crossing over from the parking lot into the trails. I always thought this would be a cool photo spot, but this area is usually crowded. I arrived at the park before every other person, except for one car in the other parking lot, which is a rare case since I like to sleep in. Since I was there so early I had the opportunity to stop on the bridge and take a few photos without disturbing anybody.

I ventured (no pun intended) down to the rock bed for some testing on a few of the tougher rocks before our trail run. This truck tackled most of them with ease. I was impressed with the Pit Bull Braven Berserker tires in most scenarios. They did struggle on dry rocks that had loose dirt, but I think the same can be said for all tires.

Here's some photos from my test session. As you can see, those damn rear D-rings still refuse to stay down! The fronts are held up by my free scale bungie cord from China.

One of the toughest test rocks is the one in the photo below. You climb the rock from the right side just to the right of the tree. This is typically challenging, but it has become even more difficult with the extremely wet summer that we have had. A new slime has developed on the rock. With a little bit of struggle and wheel speed the Venture made it up.

Once you get up this hill you continue over to the flatter part on the middle to left side of the rock. Then you turn around and get a run up the rock just to the left of the pink exclamation point. It's a challenging, but fun rock. It's definitely caused more than a few broken parts over the years. The Venture climbed it very well!

Here's my one lone photo from the trail run. I really like the way this one turned out.

It's a bit discouraging to observe so little representation in social media for the Venture, because part of what makes it fun to own any particular rig is seeing what other owners are doing with theirs. Maybe it's more popular on UK forums and FB groups, but over here I don't see much activity. I've been enjoying mine, but not sure I'll hold onto it. One thing in its favor, however, is that I haven't needed to hack into it, which has left it as my go-to rig, for whenever I get a break to run it out in the yard. Most of my rigs need something before I can take them out again, so I'm reluctant to get rid of my Venture, just yet.

It is a bit discouraging, but I put the blame solely on HPI. They delayed this truck for, what, 2 years? And then they continue to delay the aftermarket parts. All it needs is CVDs and it's a solid truck. I'd definitely put it in front of my SCX10 II in terms of performance after one run. It certainly has higher quality than the SCX10 II.

Very nice pictures and test rock, agreed that last pic just came out right! I too wish HPI would get the CVDs out ASAP, this truck is high quality, awesome drivetrain and checks off some nice scale points....aaaand BTA steering, sweet! Keep the updates coming Jato.

Edit, as much as I love my TRX-4, this drivetrain is a more scale layout. That and the TRX4 drivetrain 32P gears are definitely noisier.

When I look at your FJ in those picks it's taking all my will power not to call my local shop and have them order me one.
