Venture gearing Looking to gear down my venture. Currently running av 550motor with a 5mm shaft, and cant go lower than a 17t pinion with that setup. Wonder how low of a pinion you guys have fitted in it with a 3mm motor shaft, need to order some pinions if i can get it low enough with a motor swap. |
Re: Venture gearing Off the top of my head I think the smallest pinion you can fit is 15 tooth. |
Re: Venture gearing Ty for the reply. Seems abit pointless to change from a 550 to a 540 brushless motor if thats all i can gear down. Maybe ill just order a range from 12-15t pinions and see what fits. |
Re: Venture gearing Or get a massive turned motor. The venture is hardly walking pace and has a great drag brake stock, any slower and you'd be stationary? |
Re: Venture gearing My venture with a 3500kv on 3s and a 17t pinion is abit faster than i like my scalers. And i like abit of geardown. |
Re: Venture gearing I"ve seen this issue first hand and I have plans to design a new front crossmember that allows for more room to gear down 550 motors, it seems possible. I'm just waiting on the Venture SBK to ship to get started. I'll likely have it up on Thingiverse so anyone can download and print it but I'm getting ahead of myself. Stay tuned. I dont think the shaft diameter will effect this as a 17T pinion regardless of shaft size will be the same size. |
Re: Venture gearing The problem with a 5mm shaft is that it doesnt seem to be a lower 48p pinion than a 17t, that why im considering to put a 540 brushless in it, i really want a 12-13t pinion in it :ror: |
Re: Venture gearing The issue I noticed is that you physically cant get the gears to mesh before the motor hits the front crossmember when gearing down a 550. My brother had a revolver which is close to a 550 diameter, he tried gearing down and found that smoke was emanating from the front crossmember as the revolver was rubbing it. Selection of 48P pinions with 5mm hole is also a problem, I had to look into that as I dont run any 5mm shaft motors but I'm guessing the shaft diameter puts limitations on the tooth count thats possible. A 540 sized motor will definitely give you more options |
Re: Venture gearing How small of a pinion did your brother fit? Have roc412 i can put in. |
Re: Venture gearing He was only able to get down to 16T The Revolver has a 35.2 mm diameter while the ROC 412 has a 36MM diameter so the ROC 412 likely wont go as low as a Revolver, although maybe it can since it doesn't spin. |
Re: Venture gearing Ok, think i might just settle for what i already have then. My setup is butter smooth, but a gear ratio of 26:1 is abit higher than i generaly like in my scalers. |
Re: Venture gearing I'm running a Holmes Trailmaster 3300kv and 14t pinion with no issues. |
Re: Venture gearing the problem i have is i want a few more mph, i dont want to run 3s and bend stuff, but not quite sure how high i could gear her. was thinking 23t. also what turn can the stock esc go down to.............? |
Re: Venture gearing From their website: Motor Limit: 2S LiPo or 6 cell NiMH: 540 or 550-size motor great than or equal to 12 turn, RPM over 30,000 at 7.2v Motor Limit: 3S LiPo or 9 cell NiMH: 540 or 550-size motor great than or equal to 18 turn, RPM over 20,000 at 7.2v https://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/114712 I've had zero issues running 3S though I'm not using any of the RTR electronics, I built the Kit. |
Re: Venture gearing Yeah I read that, Ive seen a few people twist shafts with 3s. Think I may go down to am 18 turn motor or something close. |
Re: Venture gearing I've done donuts with my SBK and still no breakage (on 3s). Don't know why, just wondering when it will happen. I am used to it though as an OG Ascender owner, I always carry spare front axle shafts. Natedog will understand that. |

Re: Venture gearing Off topic a bit but wouldn't the optional 56t idler gear provide more speed? Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |

Hot Racing makes spur gears that work on the Venture and Savage. |
