Default Narrowing wheely king axles

I have a wk with a custom chassis and a few other things, I got tired of my tires sticking out of the body. I searched all around looking for an answer. I tried to narrow up some stampede wheels and add a set of proline moabs and even added a 1/8 scale bronco body, this helped but the tires still stuck out too far and hit the body when flexing. I was ready to sell the wk and buy a axial but I change my mind. I cut 3/8 inch out of each side of the axle housing, totaling 3/4" narrower than stock. I basicly cut out the part that the stock link brace covers. This way the hubs still have the bearing seats. I found a piece of 3/8 aluminum tube that lays inside each end of the axle tube and still lets the axle shaft fit through. I will cut these 1" long pieces of aluminum long ways in half and then epoxy them inside each half on the axle housing. Then cut down the safts, grind flats on the end and I should be good togo. I hope I can post some pictures tomarrow for you guys, I think you will like it, and it should be plenty stong with the aluminum tube in place. Let me know what you think and if you have seen this done before.

These are the pictures from the axle that I narrowed. A close up of the cut down axle shaft, the stock axle with tape is the area I cut out. A view of before and after, a shot of the aluminum brace epoxied in one half, and a picture of the outside, shows very little sign of being cut and when the link brace is on, no one will ever see the cut.

I remember someone narrowing WK axles, get some good epoxy, the axle shafts are super easy to cut and regrind the square part where it goes into the spider gears ( Narrowed WK Axles )

My rear axle is narrowed an inch on the drivers side. I have a piece of 16g steel bolted to the front and back of the housing.

yeah I think the aluminum tube will be the only thing supporting the axle from breaking. I have some two part epoxy puddy, I plan to pack it in around the aluminum. I might still cut somem more out before Iam done. If I can get my girlfriends camera tonight I'll post some pics

I like this method. 10 1/8th wide, easy as hell and you get a damn nice set of BL wheels out of the deal

Pricey, yes. But for the quality and such, it's worth it. Also, 1" wide out of the box.

On the cheap side, you can use these

Narrow enough to use out of the box, and I really like the way they look. They actually have more backspacing than the VF stuff, they're just wider overall.

Narrowed pede fronts are also an option.

Your work looks real nice. I've contemplated narrowing a set of WK axles, but I like the wide axle/deep offset setup, I think it makes the truck steer easier, having the scrub radius about right.
