Default Steering throw on stock WK

My WK set arrived yesterday I have separate orders out for some items that haven't arrived yet, including the HS645MG servo that I want to use. Being anxious to get it running, I used a Traxxas waterproof servo from the new Emaxx. I noticed that the steering throw seemed to be lacking severly. I don't think this could be related to the servo itself, it's not a torque issue as this happens with the truck off the ground, and the servo has 80 oz which isn't great, but not bad.

I turned up the end point adjustment on the Spektrum radio to 125% in both directions, and it's still not getting close to full lock. Below is a link to the image. On the left is the steering centered, and on the right is full throw with the transmitter at 125%. Does that look right, and if not, any thoughts on what could be the problem. It's going to be modified to a crawler so steering throw isn't a major concern, but I feel it needs more than this.

Thanks!

I can't comment on that exact servo but perhaps it has a shorter throw? The stock servo is 40oz/in so you already doubled that.

I supplemented my steering by using a slightly longer servo horn and bellcrank. Mine actually went beyond the stock position so I had to grind on the knuckles. You need to have a better servo to really get any power though.

There are pics on my website.

Well I do plan on relocating the servo to the axle, extending the wheelbase, and replacing the steering linkage soon. I guess I can wait until that stage to remedy it with a longer bellcrank like you suggested. I just thought it was odd, because the servo should have full travel as it's a steering servo from an Emaxx, and was curious if maybe that was the WK design in stock format.

Thanks!

My WK (when it was new) had to have the servo spline moved and the long link shortened because the side mounted pivot link hit the trans long before the knuckles hit turning one way. It should be pretty easy to see where/what is stopping it.

Did you reuse the stock servo horn? Anything shorter limits throw.

Well I found the problem, thought I would post it up in case someone else has a similar issue. It was actually the Spektrum transmitter creating the issue. For some reason, the "Direct Trim" controls, grip levers A and B on the transmitter, were set to 80% from the factory. This is my second Spektrum DX3 and the other one wasn't like that, so I'm wondering how it happened. Anyway, it seems that this trim control affects the end point of throttle and steering in addition to the end point adjustments from the main menu. I pushed it back up to 100% and then set my EPA on the main menu back to 100% and it gets nearly full lock in each direction.

Good thing too, it was real annoying having to make three point turns to get around a 3" root sticking up.
