OK small update, i'll post pictures tomorrow of the on going Manta build. I ended up buying a AX10 locked tranny (Still waiting for the AX10 tranny to get here.) since the stock tranny was too big and the clocked motor plate was a good idea just not going to work for my build. I also got another set of 8 shooters so i can mount up my new Flat Irons when i get them (Ordering them tomorrow). This time i went anti-bling and got the black on black ones. I'm also going to change out the stock hardware so the socket caps are black. I also made a new servo mount out of 1/8 alum plate which made my poor Dremel have a bad day, two and a half hours later a new servo mount was born. I locked out the rear axle too LOL... I'm too long winded...

Exclamation Change of Plans

Hi Everyone, My build kinda of fell off track after I got a new add-on to my
crawler stuff. I picked up a old WCC Chevy SS Hard body from a friends house when I got done working on his car, it was the 1/10 scale burnout truck that Planettoys made. I seen it laying there in a pile of junk and said thats "MINE". Since I only have one set of axles I going to put the Manta on the back burner for some time until i get a set of TLT axles, which i think would be better for it. I already have a AX10 tranny on the way so I did a spur of the moment thing and bought the X-trail chassis from TCS since my idea of a chassis didn't pan out the way I wanted, plus the lack of tools to make the parts (Poor Dremel is already 3yrs old and this hard on it LOL). I think I'm going to stick with building this Chevy in to a Mean Trail Crawler.

Here is what the Manta Looks like right now.

> Top View

> Side View

> Flex View

Here is some pictures until my AX10 tranny and chassis get here.

> West Coast Choppers Chevy Silverado SS Hard body

> Inside of the WCC Chevy (Replacing stock lights with Yeah Racing LEDs)

> New Black on Black 8 Shooters

> The New Servo Mount 1/8 Aluminum

I'm also looking in to buying a set of 1.9 tires and rims so it can have the scale look but I'm going to run my Flat Irons on it since I'm not that much in to the scaler thing right now. I'm also going to replace the Stock light in the body with the ultra bright LED pack from Yeah Racing since the stock lights suck LOL. Still waiting on the Tekin FX-R Combo to hit the market... Other than just sitting here waiting on parts to get in thats all i got.

OK 16 days later and I think I finished my build not sure might tweak and tune things here and there. I'll post some pictures of the finished producted since I really didn't take building pics since I already had crap load of build pics from the other times I built and rebuilt this thing but I'm really loving this TCS X-Trail Wheely King Setup. I posted Pictures of the 2.2 Flat Irons and some of the 1.9 Hilux Tires and rims I snagged off the Bay...

I have to give a big thanks to TCS Crawlers for being a Hell of a Vendor - Thanks Kevin!

Reset, This is what the body started life as: http://cgi.ebay.com/1-10-JESSE-JAMES...2em118Q2el1247

It's a Jesse James Burnout truck 1/10 scale, there is also a 1/12 but its a PIA to find and there is a larger one at 1/6 scale. There is about 2 people i know of that have also used it as a body.

As for mounting the body:
The body is on a Hinged mount I'll post pictures of the setup tomorrow. It's kind of like how a funny cars body lefts up its really simple.

Wink Body Mount

Here is some pictures of how i mounted the body, its not really a bullet proof idea but its working. Only bad thing that could happen is a nasty fall breaking the rear AX-10 battery mount, if and when that does happen I'll just buy the hot racing aluminum ones.

The front mount is a little tricky at first i was using a bent paper clip to lock it down but i bent the crap out that idea. Now I'm using a Wiring O-ring clip its holding up really good (son knocked truck off the table didn't damage anything.) .

> Body Hinge (Like a Funny Car)

> Front Body Mount

> Rear Body Mount

Now all i have to get a a better battery charger and some more batteries and that new ESC... I'm going to get some more action shots today if i get out.

Thumbs up update

Yeah so far the body mounts have held up really good with all the rollovers and what not, I'm really putting this truck through the paces to find out all the weak spots in my skills and where I need to beef up parts on the truck. So far I have spun both the front and rear drive shafts off the outputs. I've drilled the RC4WD converters now to use my set pins, so far they are holding up to the torment, and I swapped out the stock WK yokes for the E-savage yokes from the first HPI crawler king conversion. I also swapped the E-Maxx stocks for the Stock WK shocks with internal springs, I really need to some really thick shock oil because the crap I have is too light. You shake the truck and the axles flop around like nothing is in the shocks, there is a little bit of torque twist as well but hopefully with the thicker shock oil I can clean that up.

If anyone has some tips please past them on.

Yeah I'm thinking about tearing down the Chevy so i can work on the Manta and the Widow chassis. The chevy has held up to the rock beatings, roll overs, flips and what-not. Had to remove the mirriors on the body due to ripping them off all the time, broke the battery mount on a 6ft down hill roll over, bent the chassis due to forgetting to brace the chassis, and now the spur and pinion are starting to skip since the motor mount is deflecting. Oh well time to get a VF mount or Custom Fab one...I need to remember to bring the camera with me more...

Talking The Manta Lives...

Well I broke the Chevy down and decided to build up the Manta chassis collecting dust in the tool box. Don't get me wrong the Chevy was a great crawler but it had the scaler limits and I was bored.

This was the mock up of the Manta chassis.
> Side View

> Top View

> Bottom View

I was going to run a sprung set up but i didn't like the handling. So the Droop with internal springs set was used. Which works better other than the slight torque twist and the front shocks unloading.

This is the roller after a 8 hour build binge (too much stuff to tweak!!!)

> Manta Roller Side

> Manta Roller Top

> Flex Test 1

> Flex Test 2

> Shocks Fully Unloaded

The CG is perfect with out the battery pack installed, going to get a saddle pack later.

> CG shot (Balanced on two tires)

I'll get some action shots later on the week. I hope... local temps have not been RC friendly.

Manta Specs as of Today:

HPI Wheely King Axles
Offroader Manta Chassis
AX-10 Transmission
Kimbrough 48P 90T Spur
Robinson Racing 48P 15T Pinion
RCGuy Lockers
Proline black on Black Bead-Loc
Proline M2 Flat Irons
Stock HPI ESC
HiTec 645MG
JOWETTS Servo Mount

Chassis Specs:

Wheel Base: 12.5"
Belly Clearance: 2.75"
Front Axle Clearance: 1.5"
Rear Axle Clearance: 1.5"

Any comments are welcome and any tips...

Well i got the Manta out and hit the rocks, I'll let the pictures do the talking.

It still needs fine tuning but it crawls better than I was thinking it would.

The wheely king based crawlers are a true hobby since 90% of our parts are custom made... i need something to ease my mind again. plus i dont like seen the poor thing sitting on the self doing nothing.
