Default HPI Final Gear Set P1x38T/P1x13T #86336

Is any one running this?
http://www.hpiracing.com/products/en/86336/
I have noticed some wear on my stock ring and pinion and was just thinking about upgrading to this. Or should i just replace with the stock again.

The part in the link you posted looks to be higher quality than the drive gears I found in the Wheely King option parts list:

just my .02 cents but i would go with the r&p from rcp crawlers

http://rcpcrawlers.com/product.php?p...&cat=23&page=1

or the hpi r&P #A856 and #A857 and they are hardend gears
http://www.hpi-europe.com/piw.php?lang=en&partNo=A856
http://www.hpi-europe.com/piw.php?lang=en&partNo=A857

i have rcp r&p and the teeth on those are really deep and they are pretty heavy

Seems as if #86336 is the same thing as what you posted in 2 links but the US market gets them as a one piece set.

the A856 and A857 are hardend gears and are for the rs4 mt the ones you listed are not hardend gears thats why i listed them cause they are a complete different gear sets the ones i listed are 5mm shaft for the drive lines and the ones you listed are the 6mm shafts

I'm running the upgraded HPI set in the front of my WK-based crawler. Unfortunately, it's not a direct fit.

Maximizer lockers don't fit in the ring gear without modifying them. Compared to stock, the upgraded ring gear isn't as deep where the locker or planetary gears go.

The pinion gear is a 5mm diameter instead of 6mm where the u-joint attaches. This means the stock u-joint will have a lot of play. To get rid of this play, you can use a Traxxas T-Maxx 2.5 transmission output yolk and drill the center with a 5mm drill bit (to remove the flat sides).

Did you just swap the ring and pinion or did you have to do any mods to make it fit as stated above

Is the rcp crawlers version a literal direct fit...same size shaft, etc?

The pinion shaft is a little smaller and round 5mm VS 6mm so you may have to swap out to Emaxx driveshafts. That's what I'm runnning at least

Thanks! BTW, what's the part number on those Emaxx shafts? Also, are you running the stock tranny or something else? Thanks again!

These are the yokes:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXDDT2&P=ML
And the driveshafts:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSP55&P=M

As I said in my previous post, this yoke will need to be drilled or bored out to 5mm to get rid of the flat sides on the inside, so they can fit the differential pinion gear shaft.

No I never used the stock tranny. First it was a pede and now it's a Maxx tranny.

A copper alloy ring and pinion VS Hardened steel. I don't know about you but the little I know of metallurgy, hardened steel seems to be a lot stronger and harder metal and should outlast a copper alloy by a long run. But that's just my .02 In no way am I knocking RCP's products but I'd rather have something that lasts a long time. Put it this way. I have the same gears in my HPI MT2 SS (nitro rig) and you can land a jump at full throttle and I havent stripped any gears, nor do they have any wear after a Diff rebuild

No need for the locker...I've already done the poor man's locker...aka epoxy. Which is probably half the reason the rear diff pinion teeth are rounded off... Looks like I can get by with stock shafts for now it'll just be a little loose. I'll wait to upgrade shafts when I do a crawler conversion...

Well, without knowing what copper alloy they used, (there are some that are really strong/resilient) or what type of steel was hardened (you can harden 1018 mild steel... but its still 1018 mild steel) its foolish to say one will last 2X as long as another... but thats just my $0.02....

Also, one byproduct of hardening is that it makes metal brittle... so teeth could chip off easier.
