| New Wk Need axle servo mount Where?
I am a new wheely king owner and I have started moding, but I haven't found a thread on DIY servo mount, or where can i get one, Also it would seem that a axle mounted servo would rub if it was in top of the axle. Can this be clarified. Nate |

There is a sticky for servo mount templates at the top of the page. Free WK servo mount templates Just look through all the pages, I think that every question you have has been answered there. |

I'll try and take a pic tonight and post up for you. But I can tell you that you cannot mount the links to the servo mount. I am using a VF link mount for the WK - http://www.visionaryfabrication.com/...KUPPERLINK.htm. It works very well in conjunction with the NewEra servo mount and is heavy duty.

ya with the newera theres two types theres the one for stock wk but the other you need to have a 4 link cuz it gets rid of the pivot ball on the upperlink, there also at ripper7racing a servo mount thats 20 bucks and it sets the servo directly on the top and middle of the axle.

I like your setup dacaur, but like you said if you jumped it this would rub, so Im wandering if it hits when you come down hard flat on the front end?

Here's the Jowett servo mount on my crawler. I'm running a droop setup with a belly height of 2". As you see my body ALMOST rides on top the servo but it never hits. With a droop setup at rest (as seen in the picture) the body and axles cannot come any closer together. Plus, as stated above, your axles will pivot at their centres, so yes the wheels may raise but not the diff/servo. Sorry if I'm confusing anybody. |

for testing this, i took a little frosting and put it on the highest part of the servo. when standing the truck up on the back wheels and letting the front drop down, I am getting a little dab of frosting on the chassis about 1 out of 10 tries... the front is really heavy, but most of that is unsprung weight in the axle and wheels/tires/wheel weights. This is with no spacers in the shocks, so a spacer would definitely take care of it. Im just leaving it as is because it doesnt hit hard at all, you cant hear it hit, i only know its hitting sometimes becuiase of the frosting trick, and its only a tiny dab of frosting... it might be worth putting a little bit of foam there as a bumpstop though.... or I could just cut out the part of the battery box where its hitting to get that extra little bit of clearance...

Here is my servo mount with my recently redone link setup. This is the "less popular" way of doing link rods off the servo. But I feel that it get more movement in the wheels this way (using the RCP parts). The Servo mount is based off the same Jowetts Servo mount that SeanD is running as well. Friend of mine used the template and ripped one out on his bandsaw in his garage. Used some aluminum he borrowed from his work. gtlegs: Servo horn will look like this if you leave it long and eventually roll the rig on the front end ... lol I have dumped mine more on the lid then hard on the front end. So I wouldnt worry too much about damage there. I know my servo top cover has seen some rock action already.. heh. |

Nerve - how do you find that steering setup? My current setup puts my linkages real low and its hard to raise them up and out of the way more without reworking my servo mount. Hopefully I am not hijacking this thread. |

Well, we are still talking about something "in relation to" the servo mount original thread. So I don't think we are deviating too much. Because im sure that Feff94 would find the information handy. SeanD: Personally I like it a lot better. I find the steering to be way more reactive then previous. With my old setup I found the steering to be almost "lagging". But, that could have also been a flaw in my personal setup of the links to be honest. I have it setup now that I can get full use of the RCP high clearance hubs and knuckles and "possibly" getting full use out of that 168oz servo (HS5645mg). Since it doesn't have to transfer power to move two links on one knuckle. It is pulling direct from knuckle to knuckle. Tests at my cottage on the rocks were a success. I'll PM you some photos of my steering now from the lower side. If requested back in this thread, I will post them up. |
