Default WK comp tuber build: The Iron Eagle

I got tired of teh guys in my club with comp rigs constantly leaving me behind on the trail. I had another set of WK axles lying here and a grey 'pede trans, so I whipped up this tuber:

Cool little rx mount: This will get a cover to make it look like a fuel cell.

I wanted to see what it would look like with a little paint and paneling. So I whipped up a "hood" and blasted a little black on the frame.

This thing is scheduled for a round in a blast cabinet tomorrow then sunday night I'm taking it over to a friend's house so he can help me get link mounts, etc. on it, then I have to take it over to ANOTHER person's shop to get the delrin skid machined for it.

I'm hoping to have this a roller by the end of next week.

Kwkride: I am planning on doing more to it. I'm supposed to go over to Thaclodking's and he's gonna help me with the supension mounts, and then I've got a bunch more to add to it. But I don;t want to go to crazy, I am trying to keep the thing fairly lightweight.

This thing is gonna be in-destructable when I'm done (or so I hope).

Rockrider: "Whipped up" is a relative term. You're looking at three days worth of work. But for me, that's cranking something out pretty quick.

LST022752: It's made out of 3/16 brakeline tubing. Plenty strong, and easy to bend. (I did every bend on this thing using nothing more than my hands.)

Looks good..... I did the same thing for my electronics on my 2.2 and I am rebuilding my super with a similar design to hold all the electronics..... Here is a quick shot of the 2.2 ...... It doesn't really affect the cog at all on mine.

The thinking behind the electronics on the chassis was two-fold:

1: I am NOT a very good driver. My scale rig spends more time on her roof than on her tires, it seems. So keeping the electronics nestled in the chassis, where they can be well protected, was a key concern.

2: The Electronics (ESC, RX) are such a small fraction of the weight on an average crawler I bet you could mount them to the roof and it wouldn't matter. much. (had to add that qualifier there so I don't get burned to a crisp. )

BTW, nice chassis.

Not yet. It's currently over at Thaclodking's house getting link and shock mounts put on and link angles figured out by a guy who knows far more about suspension geometry than I do.

It'll be a week or two before she's up and running. Buying parts for the thing is pretty much on hold because my wife's birthday is coming up. I kinda skimped out on the last two so I owe her a big one.

WOW! Been a LONG time since I updated this.

But now with my entry into the 2.2 Indoor Challenge I gotta get a comp rig together. The Gremmie's great but it ain't gonna cut it there.

I finally got my chassis back from Jay's house. Between my job and his, getting together to finish 'er was nigh on impossible.

But, we managed to get the rear shock mounts on it.

So once I brought it home I blasted 'er clean, and tonight I finished up the front shock hoops.

Sparky0068 is going to let me borrow a set of Eritex Comp heavies, Losi Claws, and a Tekin Rebel2 and a 35 turn integy motor so I can get'er up and running.

Still have LOTS more to do to this chassis. Thought it was finished... not by a longshot.

Coming along nicely:

It's a little crooked in spots... So?! I've seen tubers from vendors here that were worse... LOL.

At least all the critical stuff (shock/link mount positions) are square.

More goodies arrived this weekend for the build! Thanks Sparky0068!
Click the image to open in full size.

Eritex Inc. Comp heavies, with Losi claws and a TON of weight in them, a Tekin Rebel2, a 35-Turn Integy motor, and nice hunk of what we believe is either Teflon or Nylon for the skidplate, plus a dig collar for the rear d-shaft (not in the picture)

Also got a trick wheelbase jig made.

Still have to order some jato shafts, WK crawler-conversion link mounts, and then I should have it running in a few days once the parts show up!

Actually, I'm just waiting on a set of lower link mounts to get here (slow boat from Japan, I guess) and I should be able to have the thing up and running.

I have a bunch of tricks up my sleeve for this rig. I'll have pics soon. Don't worry.
