Default driveshafts for axial trans?

hey everyone, first of all thank you for all of your support to new crawlers like myself. i built my own chassis off of the widow design, i finally picked up an axial trans for it. will wheely king yolks fit? i'm currently using maxx shafts. i know the axial trans doesn't have a whole in the outdrive for the wk set screw to secure the yolk. can i just cut the wk set screw to tighten the yolk on the outdrive flat spot? or is it too large? what will i need to get it to work, what shafts are you guys using? thanks for the help in advance!

The WK's use a 6mm yolk and the Axial's use a 5mm yolk. I had clearence problems with my 'Maxx' shafts hitting my spur gear (after switching to an Axial transmission), so I used some shafts from Traxxas with 5mm yolks. I don't have the part # for the shafts, but the part # for the yolks is #4628x.
I used my Dremmel to remove a little material from the WK pinion shafts so the new yolks would fit.
The spur gear from the WK wont fit the Axial transmission. Remember the Axial transmission has a lower internal gear ratio than the WK.
I'm going to try a 20/87 combo with a 55T motor.

Hope this helps.

traxxas pede shafts fit. Part# 1951. You can also use the steel pede shaft yolks which I would suggest. Rc4wd makes punisher shafts for the axial tranny. MIP also released steel shafts for the axial. All these parts are available at www.rpphobby.com Order from Corey. They are the best vendor on RCC...

Since the WK axle pinion shaft is 6mm and the Axial trans shafts are 5mm...I used the small steel Traxxas yokes (PN#4628X) at trans end and Maxx plastic yokes (I believe PN#4928X) at the axle end.

I used a male side small halfshaft (PN#1951) and attached the steel yoke to that. I cut that male shaft down to have only about 1/2" left of it beyond the yoke. Then I used a larger male halfshaft (PN#4951X) and attached the larger Maxx yoke to that. Then using a knife, I widened 2 of the grooves in the smaller male halfshaft (end with the steel yoke that is now only 1/2" long) so that I could slip a larger female halfshaft over it. This larger female half has had the yoke cut off of it making it now just a tube end to end.

Then I CA glued this female tube onto the 1/2" long stub of the smaller male shaft that has the steel yoke. All you do at this point is slide the two halves of the larger Maxx shafts together...and you have this..............

I hope that made sense

I used Offroader5's technique and it works great. I see you're from Aiea, I'm from Kalihi. Check out my rig, I'm also running WK axles with a Scorpion trans. The WK: Wallet Killa

BTW, I have a servo mount like the one on my front axle for sale. PM me if you're interested.

I just put maxx shafts on my sons truck in the front. We're running Pede shafts for our dig set up,so we'll stick with Pede shafts in the rear. I used the Maxx shaft mod using the factory axial yokes and maxx shafts. Worked like a champ. He's running a stock spur(87) and the maxx shafts work fine. Granted, you couldn't get any closer to the spur without getting into it. It's TIGHT. It does run fine though

You didn't give any info in your original post about what it was for, you only said it was an Axial trans...that's why it looked as though it should have gone in the Axial section.

When you're looking for a solution to a problem...give as much info as you can to help people understand what it is you are working with, and exactly what you are trying to accomplish.
