02's F-650 Build w/pics I posted this on another forum and thought you guys may want to have a look also. I have decided to turn my Wheely King into a more scale rig. Lets Begin: The Parts I plan to use http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/4664/dsc00344jl6.jpg Frame is made from 5/8'' Aluminum Plywood Edging, 1/2'' Aluminum for the crossmembers and 1/2'' Nylon Spacers http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7761/dsc00339st7.jpg Basic Frame http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/8997/dsc00340hp7.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/6558/dsc00343it9.jpg Leaf Spring Mounts for WK Axle, Made from 1/2'' Channel http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/623/dsc00349jm7.jpg Mounted to axle with leafs http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2003/dsc00352cf5.jpg Edit for pic size |
Basic Mock up http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9051/dsc00357rb5.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5787/dsc00360gr7.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/5373/dsc00362tc0.jpg Leaf mounts are made from steel plate cut into almost triangle shape and an 8/32'' threaded rod to mount them. I am not not happy with the shackles however they work for now. |
Next to my stampede to compare size http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/8494/dsc00363cz8.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/2940/dsc00364dn2.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/8021/dsc00366nd9.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/4962/dsc00369uy5.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7500/dsc00370rk8.jpg |

I forgot to take a bunch of pics i planned on taking...i got a little excited to get it moving! http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/5311/dsc00375uf5.jpg http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1018/dsc00391ha3.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/963/dsc00392xe4.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/8833/dsc00393dk5.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/5340/dsc00395um8.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/5552/dsc00396wr6.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/4236/dsc00397io2.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/7158/dsc00401wb9.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/1557/dsc00402sv2.jpg http://img360.imageshack.us/img360/3326/dsc00404pc8.jpg There are lots of things i am going to change and/or add, paint the chassis, (Black or Orange??) correct hardware, and i think some lights are in order, add a skid plate, and other details. |
So she is a driver! Very Stable!?! This thing is light! I guess with most everying made from aluminum and Carbon I kept the weight down. It did 'crawl' much better in the Wheely king/extended link setup, however it would go over most everything and almost took the fun out of it! It now needs lockers. This thing seems to flex how a scale lifted f650 would flex (though the front shocks limit most of the travel on the front) I am going to add lockers and a rear lock out kit and need to work on the steering. It steered where i asked it to, however it just does not seem to work as well as i hoped. For some reason i thought i was eliminating bump steer using most of the stock setup however with a bit more thinking i would have seen how wrong i was. It does work, just not to my satisfaction. Everything else was great! Even on high speed (stock gears) it is way more stable than the extened wheely king! Lots of fun... here are the pics: http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/4518/dsc00383tz2.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3281/dsc00384iy4.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/759/dsc00381fo0.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/4068/dsc00390hu4.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3425/dsc00389eg8.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/9672/dsc00388ve5.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3992/dsc00387hv2.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5356/dsc00386dx5.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/2240/dsc00379mu1.jpg http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5601/dsc00378nq3.jpg Edit: The paint is pactra flouresent orange with silver backing to give the yellow to orage look! |

Looks pretty good. You could probably get away with some All-T's on that monster for the scale look. They're only about 1/4 inch taller than the stockers you're running. You probably wouldn't gain much in performance though. |
nice looking rig, love that body. |
The truck looks AWESOME! I have that same body sitting NIP on my workbench because I wasn't sure I wanted to use it, but your truck may have changed my mind! |
Thanks everyone for the compliments! I will check out the All-t's, Right now i am leaning towards Rock Crushers... only issue i have is finding a rim that sits under the body more. Edit: I noticed that Outcastrc (The Man who i will give credit for making me want to build this thing) has All-T's, I cant take anymore from him! |
That thing is a BEAST! Lovin' the color, too. Well done, sir "thumbsup" T.D. |
Thanks T.D.! |
If you want a cheap Beadlock, Proline's should narrow it up about 1/2 inch. All-T's on Axials (I know your leaning towards Crushers but I got a set of All-ts mounted on Axials rims) will be about the 1/8 inch wider overall than the stock wheels. I just compared the Stock wheels to All-T's on a set of WK axles. The Prolines are a little narrower than the Axials and bring the track width in about 1/2". If you want to go Alumn. VF or I should say DNA now, made some beadlocks in a Wheely King offset that would really bring the tires in. |

The Prolines will easily clear the WK axles. The offset is about 1/4" less than the Axial's. That combined between left and right gives you about 1/2". Now the tire clearance could be another issue. The All-T's hang way out past the bead but if you go with the Crushers like your thinking, you won't even come close. The Crushers are like half as wide as the All-T's. I had both sets for my scale Axial based Sniper and there are a couple pics off both in it's build thread. I personnally didn't like how tall and narrow the Crushers were and got rid of them. Just didn't look right to me. |
The crushers being to narrow is what i am worried about. I didnt like how narrow the Moabs looked and from the size specs the Moabs are a little wider than the crushers!?! I guess i am pretty set on the Pro-line wheels, if i can lose 1/2'' in width, thats what i need! Are there any tires that are around 2 1/2" - 2 3/4" wide? **Sick build! I have a lincoln wire feed welder and wanted to give a tuber a try on some steel rod, but from what i keep seeing is people saying brazing works better. I dont know how to braze. :-( |
very cool build bro!!!"thumbsup" |
