WK Full Droop Comp Chassis!
 

Well i got bored of the AX10 RC i have so i've started to aquire some WK parts. Startign with the tranny.

this is a 2" wide full droop comp chassis based on a WK tranny. Right now i have it with AX axles under it but that could change.

I haven't done the control arms yet. but thats next.

this even has a full functioning drive shaft dig. and chassis mounted servo.

my tranny shoudl arrive in a week or so. I will be cutting the chassis hopefully in the next 7 days.

i started playing with the shocks extended. fully then flexing it out.

the axles are contrained in the model as if it has control arms. i just didn't feel like modeling them.

I am all for the WK based rigs but usually one would work off the Axles and use a different Tranny. IMO, You should at least start development on the correct foot and engineer the rig to have a clocked motor plate or some other custom mounted motor. I am building an FJ40 that will have a separate bracket for the motor for lower CG... Interested to see this build come alive.

If you look closely the motor is mounted extremely low. In fact it is only about ¼” higher then the Axial set-up when measured form the skid plate. The goal of this chassis was to make it narrow and have the weight up front.

I have made clocking rings for the WK that gets the motor resting on the skid plate but the chassis width is 3.5” at the very best. This chassis is 2” wide.

If you look at the Axial comp chassis that are this widt it has 3/4 of the motor hanging out of it to one side. This is a true 2”.

The reason for the WK tranny was for the width. I will be making this with arms and axle mounts to use the WK axles as well for a buddy.

If it works it is a great upgrade for all the guys thinking about switching to a Axial.

I Would like to see the motor mount/bracket by itself of you have any pictures, please. Looks like an integrated mount/frame brace. Since I am going to mount the motor in the engine compartment it might help me to get the 'ol brain thinking on the correct wavelength to fab a bracket.

Also, I have a chance to take a surf cam class this summer. That a good one to take before CNC machine operation or after? I can't decide how far i want to go with my schooling but "All the way" would be the ultimate. I dream about making all my own parts with a CNC rig.

Your right. The motor mount is mounted to the frame and doubles and a chassis stiffener.

When I get home I’ll show a more in depth picture.

Why I think this will work so well is that I plan on using all the factory tranny mounts. The posts on the side of the tranny are quite long but in my case I have decided that I will be sanding them down to make the OA width of the tranny 1.5”.

But having the tranny mounted in 6 locations should be VERY stiff.

It's been a while since I've seen a 60/40 split TVP chassis. Looks pretty good though! I really like the idea of the motor out front, wish I could have thought of it first ;-) I'm interested to see how the set-up works with droop and having the skid plate so small, might just be the ticket!

ok heres the motor plate. i ave changed the colour to Red so you can see it better.

I'm goign to try it out of Delrin first....if that fails then i will go aluminum.

i ordered up some new cutting bits for the table today. shoudl be here in a week or so...

then i can start playing around with this in real life.


tonight i'm hoping to get the WK axles fully model'd. i'll let you guys know how it turns out.

you should just make the motor plate out of metal to start with than no problems at all, unless how thick you making it?

ok well the link mounts, shock mounts, and drive shafts are all in generally the same location. this is good.

i actually liek the factory mounting clips when turned up. We'll see if i end us using them or makign new ones.

Would you mind sharing the Solid Works models? I'm still learing Solid Works and would love to see how you modeled some of these parts.
