Default 1st Attempt at a scratch built rig!

Well i had another wk laying around so i thought i would try to make a comp worthy rig for my son.
I ordered some delrin rod and a 1/4 inch sheet of delrin.
Sat down for about a hour or two and fabbed up a skid for the tranny.
Going to run it sideways and try to keep it narrow as possible.
Going to use the 1/4 inch side plate for a mounting spot for tranny also.
Also drew out a few different side plates out of thick paper for test fitting.
Side plate i am going to try.

Going for narrow as i can.

In this pic you can see how tranny mounts are going in between sideplate.

Next i ran over to my brothers to cut some servo mounts, side plates and a skid out.( I live in a apartment, wife gets mad if i fab in the place!)

Cut out a few servo mounts first.

I put tape over my delrin before i started cutting to minimize scratches, thats why its blue. I screwed two pieces together so they both turn out the same when i cut them. ( Thats what those 2 screws are in picture.)

Ended up with these.

Back to my house for some mock up. Got the tranny and side plates mounted. Drilled all the holes with a freehanded drill. Wish i had a small drill press!!

Running a 96t spur, it hangs out just a hair. Will drop down to a 93 and see if it tucks in better. Ended up at 3 and 1/4 wide total.

Had to get my servo mount fabbed up and ready to mount. here is my mount bending jig.( Screwed it to the board and hammered it over to a 90% angle.)

Spot for four link mount.

Mocked up using some stock axial links. Going to go get some parts at the hobby shop tomorrow.

You can see in these pics were i used the side plates for a tranny mounting spot also.

Got this far today. Going to get the delrin links cut tomorrow.
As it sets its 12 inch W.B. 3 inches belly height.
Way wide with axial wheels. Need to find some berg offset wheels.

More to come tomorrow!! Stay tuned.

Looks good, but the CG may be too high, because I had my tranny like that and it was litttle too high to compete whit axial tranny. Overall looks good and tell us how it rolls over the rocks!!

I built one a year or so ago with the tranny clocked in a axial chassis.
This pic is my old axial chassis with wk axles.

It worked very well and would climb a hair over 60% on the test board.
As long as i put everything else nice and low i think it might do ok.

Well i finished making the links and got it all wired up.
Sidewinder esc, Holmes hobbies 55t motor, 21/93 gearing, Hitech 645 with CC bec set at 6.1 volts. Running a 2c 1300 for now.
Belly is at 2.75 inches. Seems to crawl very well so far( Raining all day limited me to inside testing). I need to put softer springs on shocks. These are slash short front shocks with rod end mod done to them. Puts them at 4 inches eye to eye.

Flex shot.

That thing turned out pretty sick. Is that my old tranny? Glad to see it put to good use. Hope your son likes it. And a C10 body with flames. Like father like son.

Took it out for a crawl today. Wow.. it crawls great. Change out to 4 inch losi shocks and got some berg off set DNA's.
It will pull 64 degress on incline board.
I have never had a rig make it past 61 before now. Lifts wheel a little.

Crappy unedited vid of test board.Video shows 63 degrees.

Another quick vid

You should start moving your uppers up or down to see if it does any better. I bet you can get all 4 wheels to stay planted.

LOL.....It wont lift a tire up on my Guiness bottles!!

Im gonna move a few things around. The good thing with this delrin if i need to make some new holes it easy to drill. Gonna shoot for a solid 65 degrre climb with no wheel lift!!

Cut it out with a plain ole jigsaw!! Smoothed it out with a dremel.

Rig is working great. My 9 yr old drove it to a 5th place overall last weekend.
Going to put a new Crawlerx dig on it and see how that does!!!
