Dads birthday sportsman rig build. Well I've been hearing my dad say he hates the damn crawlers to watching some pull an awsome line and say "I want one" The other day he was looking a a losi night crawler very intirested in it. He said and I qoute, "If I gotta be out there anyways I might as well drive one." That set off the triger that I will build him an RTR ready to go out the box rig by his birthday or fathers day, whenever I have it done. I decided to with a WK based rig since he always liked my WK since according to him alaways worked well. This is not the pro sportsman, but older DNA aluminum one. His birthday is May 11 so I have plenty of time to get this done. I'll get a couple pics from the guy selling the chassis to me. Now remeber shhh! Keep it a secret, don't say somthing about it at a comp when my Dad is around! http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k...1-06153519.jpg |
Thats a great idea man!! hope it comes out well!!! maybe your dad well really get into the hobby. good luck!"thumbsup""thumbsup" |

1 Attachment(s) Very nice but your front axle seems way over clocked. Would you like a set of my original WK billet upper link mounts? These are the ones I originally designed for this chassis kit. I'd be happy to donate for the build "thumbsup" You might also check your wheel base. With the stock lower link/shock mounts, you might need to add a jato long rod end to one end of each lower link...which will also help out the clocking issue. Lastly, this chassis loves light weight and a small outrunner...helps in the COG factor a TON...makes for one super nimble crawler "thumbsup" Don BWD |
Yea I know it is way over clocked. I sent you a PM on the mounts. The tamyia 4 link post are causing it. The WB is good right now I'm aming for 12 1/4 uncompressed beacuse the new WB rule. Might also be switching shocks to jato/revos or possible long traxxas big bores. On the outrunnner, I will not use that, but if I build it light and gear it down some a 454 cobalt puller might be in fit. If not I will go with a 500 puller, which is still lighter than a 540 can.8) |
The mounts will ship in the morning. I have a cobalt 454 lightly used for 20 bucks on my garage sale page at billet-works.com if you want to go that route on the cheap. Don |
haha looking good eric :) sorry those mounts are still on my wk axles that came on that truck :D ohwell glad Don gonna get some to ya... i kind of miss that truck :D hahaha ohwell I will check back... |
Thanks Don again. Yea man this chassis is nice and thanks for it! It will be good, I know it. |
If you run the little 454 cobalt (which you should, especially on 3S lipo)... Be sure to gear down quite a bit (96/12). Running the underdrive Axial ring & pinion is a good improvement too. Great looking build "thumbsup" TOM |
Already got that man. I knew the 454 was going to need low gearing and actualy 12/96 is my staring point. 3s, not going to happen though. I'm still not on Lipo though and I can't afford to buy the lipo stuff. He'd have lipo but not me, and I can't have that. He will probaly beat me! |
Uh-oh!! http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k...a_Texas_US.jpg Weight differences, or estimates, my scale only goes to 5.5oz 454 cobalt puller 3.63oz with wires on: http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k...a_Texas_US.jpg 27t saturn at least 5.5oz, but I'm thinking close to 6oz: http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k...a_Texas_US.jpg So a loss of about 3oz on the upmost part of the chassis. Not bad. Thanks again Don. |
Great idea you dad will be blown away. "thumbsup" |
Thanks man. At frist I was going to throw a beater togethere to have for a christmas gift, but I decided when I saw this chassis was up for sale, I knew what it was going to be. |
Just to keep this a rollin', figure I'd post the wheels and tires I got from landon4. http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k...2-02193840.jpg |
