Anybody have experience? Would be nice to buy hardened axials and throw em straight into our wk axles. Tired of sooofft hpi wk ring and pinion gears. Be nice to buy THIS and bolt right onto diff case and fit into axle case. My mudd king could always use some lower maint and higher reliability. Once I get my beadlocks painted and mounted to my IMEX puller dawgs I will post some pics:flipoff: Good wk fun! Even with stock diffrientials shimmed right they wear too fast i think.

yes they work, and good too. you can get the under drives for the rear and it will help with crawling. hpi also offers strong gears but they are marketed for the rs4 mt i believe. but they are the same gear count as stock. personally i like the hpi's for the front because you can still use the stock wk drive shafts, until they break that is.

E-Savage ring & pinions will also fit and are cheap compared to other hardend sets. HPI also offers a gear set for the rs4 that would work as an overdrive set in the front if you like (14/36).

I bought 2 sets of the e savage ring and pinions. Hopefully comes with a few new shims. Looking at the stock gears online the pictures look like its some kind of pot metal and soft. I have hardened hpi mt2 gears in my 6x6 but cost me a fortune.
Looks like my next weak link is going to be the stock center shafts(savage shafts work?) as I have twisted a few of mine ;-). I hate the fact MIP quit making wk cvds. I have them in the front of this truck but wont have any available when they break. Hotracing lockouts on the rear. Thanks to snoopmaxxes help I have my steel tranny parts on the way:twisted:. I wont be pushing the torque that chongdigga does on his truck I just want less gear failures. I put the waterproof vxl in and run on a 6cell and 2s lipos.

CrawlinMike 11-10-2010 01:46 AM

Well got my axle gears and bulletproof tranny all installed(Used 32p 13/64 gearing for pinion/spur). Also planned on mounting my new imex pullers onto proline beadlocks I special prepared and painted just for them buuut there seems to be no way they will actually hold a bead on them. Kinda janky imho. So I used my spare axial set I painted silver with black rings and used chrome hardware. Looks like I am just waiting for the rain to produce some nice thick mud:flipoff: These tires seem to bring a new attitude to the truck. Also using HR straightaxle lockouts and MIP cvds.

I just swapped in stock axial gears after destroying the stockers. So far so good. I did break a rear axle shaft fter installing them.

I am running mine as a basher with a 4600kv brushless system.

I used to have a set of those tires, but mine were called ROAD DAWGS I swear it was written so on the sidewall. Where did you get those tires?

^^that's great and all but we are discussing gears here not "post your wk build" pics.

back on topic. axial gears are not a "direct bolt on" you have to drill a hole in the pinion gear shaft to accept the long set screw for the drive shafts.

btw, anyone have problems drilling into the hardened gear's shaft? i drilled one out and it went through like butter but the second one wouldn't even let me punch it to mark the hole nor drill at all.

socodemon 04-20-2011 11:09 AM

How well do the e savage gears work? Does anyone have a part number?

What about the E-Savage diff case? Can I use the alloy diff case in a WK axle?

Ran these for a long time without problems.
Here is the part # for the HPI HD gears. 86336 , taken from page 30 of the manual.

Hvrc 05-27-2011 10:07 AM

Thankfully, I'm reading this instead of asking for another set of stock gears. I recently traded off my hpi mtdt for w/k axled beast, and the r/p in this thing are worse then the mini traxxas line up! Even after a fresh rebuild, shimmed up, and slipper instal, the first wide open pull (5800kv & 3s) damn thing automatically turned into front wheel drive! Not even the notorious "click, click, your gears are crap, click"

E savage sets, here I come!!!

Also, the actual diff gears in the e savage, will they work in the diff? I want to swap out my axial hd locker.

Re: Axial ring and pinion in wheely king axles?

My rig is a mega mud truck,
I have gone thru 3 sets of diff's in the rear and finally have it done, I hope! lol
Now the front diff is gone,

Can someone post details on the e savage r&p install and the Axial r&p install?
Along with part numbers and what needs to be cut, drilled, clearance d, ect......
I am dyin to try somethin different here!
