I am building a custom crawler king from scratch. I have the body from a radioshack rc truck that ive stripped and it looked like this

http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMAG0569.jpg

Ive stripped off all the decals sanded and stormtrooped it

http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMAG0574.jpg

I also have the tvp for the chassis and the batt tray will be here this week. The tvp will remain black and the batt tray will be white. Future shoes will be the tmaxx tractor style wheels. Motor will be a powerwheels 550 and i am unsure of a servo at the moment. Any suggestions on servos???

Oh i forgot to mention that the esc is gonna be a traxxas xl5 for the waterproof and i would prefer the servo to be wp as well.

Re: custom crawler king.. slow build

For waterproof I like traxxas 2075.
Otherwise hitec 645

Re: custom crawler king.. slow build

Ok good. Does the hitec have enough tourqe to turn the tmaxx wheels quickly and effeciently from a standstill

Re: custom crawler king.. slow build

Prob not, the 645 is a great budget servo, 133 oz of torque. You prob want to double that for maxx sized tires

Re: custom crawler king.. slow build

Oh ok. I saw a hitec that had 160 oz in would that be enough

[QUOTE=lonleycreeper;3866079]For waterproof I like traxxas 2075.

2075 is a waste of money, the 645 is a little better but still dosent have enough power( 130oz of torque) if you do use it stock up on gears. you can always water proof it your self

Re: custom crawler king.. slow build

Yeah true. Id rather buy one that is wp from the factory. That way if somethin happens to it i can warranty it.

Update time.. ok so i got my battery box and servo mount yesterday and painted them white so it looks like this

Hi i have been building my ck for a lil while and my progress is my tvp, battery box, stock servo mount( which wont be used and replaced with something useful), i have a completly built tranny just waiting on my heatsink motor plate to get here and spur gear. I will be using the stock ck esc for now untill i can get a traxxas wp esc, the motor im using was robbed from a powerwheels car so it has plenty of power:) future plans are tmaxx wheels for bashing, i have 2.2 proline flatirons for crawling and acle mounted servo. Pics in a few

Pics as promissed

Awsome man, waiting to see what you come up with. Expecting a hard core mud truck, yes?

anthonyjlc 10-27-2012 11:36 AM

Re: the ultimate crawler king.....

Yes deffinetly i ran into a little problem with the tranny when i got it together it was like the gears were formed improperly, one tooth was too tall and it was causing some binding in the tranny so i took it back apart and when i located the tooth that was too tall i filed it down and no more binding.

Re: the ultimate crawler king.....

Looking good. Have you ran the powerwheels motor yet? What voltage are you running it on? How fast is it?

Like that body too.

anthonyjlc 10-27-2012 07:15 PM

Yeah ive tested it i had it in my mini summit when it was a trail rig, it has tons of torque, enough to slip a fully tight slipper clutch if the wheels were bound up, i might hit 3 mph with 20/55 gearing, so with the 20/87 gearing ill be using in the ck ill be lucky to hit that lol, as for voltage i tested it at 7.4 because i had a 1/18 size battery to test with, so i may stick with a 6 cell because it did pretty good with that

Is gonna be built around a 1/10 summit tranny, wk axles for axle mounted servo, alum. Angle for chassis, venom creeper plates for link mounts and tmaxx shocks, its gonna be a wild one

Re: the ultimate crawler king.....

Thats about what I figured. Probably great for a crawler, but I need a little more speed. Mine is more of a trail truck than a real crawler.

anthonyjlc 10-27-2012 09:58 PM

Re: the ultimate crawler king.....

Same with mine, but the trails i drive on are old logging/atv trails with reall steep climbs and are loaded with tree roots and rocks along the entire path as you can see here, this is at the very top of a steep incline, too steep to walk up

Re: the ultimate crawler king.....

That's quite a trail. I don't have anyrthing like that around here. I have several things to climb over but lots of open ground between them.

Re: the ultimate crawler king.....

Yeah, thats cool. I am going to have to get some action shots.

anthonyjlc 10-28-2012 05:03 PM

Yeah its a blast to drive on. Itll put your rig to the test thats for sure.

My favorite shot
