New guy here. Been lurking for most of this summer. Started out with a Wheely King, reversed the chassis, bought an axle mount for the steering servo, then bought the full Crawler in a Box kit from HPI. After poking around on this site for most of the summer, I stumbled upon this thread Custom Chassis'd WK Crawler And just had to do it. Here's some shots of my build. Custom Crawler - Imgur I had a ton of fun doing the build, pseudo-fabricating parts, and guessing about suspension geometry. Ultimately rewarding to take it out and have it perform so well. |

That whole picture set is awesome. I just picked up a WK with the crawler kit and did really bad on the trade. This thing doesn't turn at all, barely crawls, is top heavy and dirty. The motor sucks, the ESC has no low voltage for my lipo. BUT, I love it for some reason. I want to do a chassis like this and i'm glad to see folks are still running around WKs and working on them. I think my 1/18 Losi mini crawler out crawls my wk as-is, but not for long. SO much reading to do...thanks for the post though. |
