What are the differences between HPI Crawler and Wheelie King

Summit trans is pretty good. Easy to mount on aftermarket frames or homemade and gear ratio is wider. They're tough as nails. I have two WK trannys that are steel geared now. It's tough too but motor mounts so high. I have a solution for one.

Will the motor clear the shaft on that set up?

Yeah. But that's a really fat maxx shaft.

I did stick in a brushless kit and am a lot happier with it now. Didn't go hog wild, but placed in an 80a ESC with a 17.5 turn 540 can. Went down from a 21t pinion with the 55t brushed to a 19t pinion on the 17.5 brushless on the 90t spur.

It's a bit faster than it was before but the big thing it lifting the front tires over an obstacle. The 55t would bog and sit there without movement where the 17.5 at least has some juice to roll the tire over a rock and proceed.

If needed I can still turn it down at the transmitter.

I am getting ready to make some cuts in the stock battery box (hate to cut up stock parts when they seem to be a bit harder to come by)

The standard 6 cell nimh fits fine. Obviously a hump pack is out of the question.
Even 2 cell lipos seem to have some trouble. I have a couple race packs with standard wires that fit great, but would rather save these packs for race day.
The packs I want to use are either too long (soft pack), or have the removable leads (that need more room in the existing holes in the front of the box), or a saddle pack (needs holes both in the front and in the middle for leads).

Most of these mods are simples holes being drilled or largened so no big deal, but I am wondering what you all have done for battery box mods.

I've shortened a box once. Used a soldering iron I believe to plastic melt it back the size I wanted. I ran brushless with two mini lipos in parallel. Battery box on both sides. And put my rx in the back of the longer battery box. This was for my mud/snow king. Saved and evened out the weight.

I've been meaning to measure the drive shafts but haven't gotten to it yet. Are the wheelie king drive shafts shorter then the crawler kings drive shafts or are they the same?

I believe the WK has a shorter wheel base but is this taken up only by the links or also with shorter shafts?

You're correct. Wheely king center shafts are shorter.

What's the stock back spacing on the CK wheels?

How do the 1.9 wheel/tire combos do?

I assume most people want to "upgrade" to a 2.2 wheel for less rolling resistance, but it seems a 1.9 would allow lower center of gravity for better hill climbing ability (plus I know they seem to be more scale).

I'm thinking about getting a cheaper set of 1.9 wheels/tires just to see how they do. I think the ones I am looking at are 3mm back space.

Also, going by the LHS tomorrow to see what they have hanging on the wall as far as metal drive shafts...I know there won't be anything for the CK but are any able to be used such as SCX10 etc. Need to pull out the micrometer later to see what the lengths are but according to Google it sounds like the CK may also have a 6mm output shaft where some have a 5mm output shaft. Sounds like a Revo shaft may work according to something I read? (I'm assuming they are 6mm).

I do need to go a little lower on the gear but if I get a set of smaller tires I may just see how that reacts first before changing a lot more on the gearing. Clearance may also be an issue with straight links.

They are pretty deep,15 mm or so, don't know exactly but very similar to the ax10. Scx beadlocks are a 9mm offset iirc. Matched to some 4.75" aka tall 1.9" tires should perform pretty good.
Punisher driveshafts are available for the Crawler king.
