Default Wheely King?

Why is the HPi WK priced so low. It quickly became obvious why the
RedCat RS10 was so cheep, everything needed to be upgraded or
fixed.

I'm a home crawler and would like to use the WK pretty much as is.
How would you rate the power of a WK stocker?

Real answers please.

The Wk stock is a pathetic crawler. Open diffs, terrible tires and a high cg do not help it at all. As a monster truck basher it is pretty good and a lot of fun.

As a stock crawler, axial is hard to beat. Deadbolt is $300 rtr, throw in a battery and charger and you have a truck you can grow with.

+1 on lonleycreeper's comment. If you want a basher/monster truck the WK is suited to that. If you want a crawler/trail rig with endless mod's available, not to mention fantastic aftermarket parts support - Axial is the better choice.

BTW: I have 2 RS10s, I'm looking for power, without going into politics. 4wd monster may be ok.

Welp few things I know about the Wheely King to be able to put decent power through it:
- Tranny gears will need to be replaced eventually, the plastic ones strip. You have a couple options, $50 for RC4WD steel gears, or 2 Mod1 pinions for the top two gears at roughly $30 + 5mm sheered off drill bit
- Rear diff will need to be shimmed and even then it may strip because the metal's junk. Then they'll need to be replaced with the Hardened Axial or HPI set, or the E-savage R/P depending on the power you've got in it.
- Dog bones have a tendency to snap just below the ball with brushless power.

Currently in my WK I have the Aluminum Hot Racing gears (waiting for them to get chewed up), the rear diff is shimmed up, but I think I need to re-shim it. I did the PVC straight axle lockout mod to get rid of the parts on the rear axle. I run a 15T firebolt on 7cell Traxxas nimh's and 2S lipo 30C/4000mah through an XL-5 esc because the stock EN-1 died on me. So, that's plenty fast for me.

If I could do it over, I would have bought a Wraith. But the Wraith wasn't out when I got my Wheely King so c'est la vie! The wraith is a much better platform for a powerful basher.

Damm, sounds like a redcat except takes longer to tear it up.

update: Against all advice I went with a, HPI MV12603 Maverick STRADA MT Evo 1:10 [only available in europe]
More of a monster than a crawler, we'll see.

Fairly fast, upgraded battery and installed a Blackout 550. Picked up a little power and it runs a long time.
Very similar to a RedCat Volcano. A little direct aid to our friends in the Ukraine. I hurt my foot so I had to
buy some more trucks and an amazing Mad wolf 2wd buggy.

if you want a cheap crawler the crawler king is not a bad choice i ran mine almost completely stock for a year without any issues. i put a stright axle adapter on the back and that was it. as long as your not crazy with your truck it will last and you want the crawler king not wheely king for crawling.

Everything is possible to tear up, buts that's the fun. I bought mine WK for $50 complete, dropped another $300-$400 in it and have a pretty bomb proof rig now. Sure, each time I get new parts I think "man, I should have just bought the Axial or Vaterra..." but the WK has taught me tons about modifying for the situations. She may never be a comp crawler, she may be top heavy, but she has never let me down.

It's fun to tinker and what you have is uniquely 'yours'. I may award myself with a terremoto 10 ?? or a wraith.
