most likely a gearing problem. check the spur and pinion and adjust as needed

What is your gearing? I liked 14/96 personally, as low as you can go with the stock transmission.

Did you set the gear mesh up correctly? Not having it set correctly could lead to binding which puts strain on the motor and esc leading to them overheating. There is many tutorials on here that can help you set it correctly if you dont know how to currently. Your gearing should be fine i've ran alot of different motors on stock gearing just fine.

if it is set up for a 55t motor, it most likely wont like a lower turn motor without gearing down..what is the tooth count of the factory pinion and spur gears?

Are you trying to crawl? It takes a lot lower gearing to crawl than it does to bash. If I recall correctly stock gearing is something like 20/86, to crawl you really need 14/96. Hpi sells the large spur, at least they did.

factory is 21/90 when i put the 27t motor in there it was perfect for a little speed and crawled way better IMO

keep an eye on the temps, 4.2:1 is a bit tall for crawling, it would be better to get the ratio between 5:1 and 6:1 for much longer motor life. 3s would also make more speed out of the ratio you choose..but your ESC may not be rated for 3s...

I would have went with a higher turn motor..a 40t would have been and excellent choice...you need to get the ratio in the 5:1-6:1 area....until you do, its gonna overheat the lower turn motors like the 27t
