| King Bling rebuild has started.
After driving the King Bling tuber this past weekend I decided to revamp the rig a bit. It performed well but I wanted to slow down the suspension movement and decrease track width. The plastic-bodied shocks are being replaced with some aluminum HPI MT shocks (HPIA725) and filled with Mugen 1000 weight diff oil. That's right - One thousand weight...No springs. The track width was a bit wide for my taste so I decided to install some trusty RPM Revolvers (rear pede) narrowed to 1.3" Once the suspension is worked out I'll make changes to the frame. I'd rather bolt the body panels in place than have to cut and replace zip ties. After I've made/tested frame changes I'll have the frame powder coated. |

Yeah Yeah thats all interesting but I can't comprehend any of it because I my eyes keep ending up on your avatar. Abouts how wide will the track width be with the narrowed revolvers? Interested to hear how the shocks work. Josh |

We need before and after pics! I'm sure this thing is going to turn out awesome, it's already one of my favorite tubers on here. Let us know how the oil and no springs works out, I think you might have something there. |

Me 3 on the shock oil. Kinda curious on that one. Kinda think it would be like 1:1 nitro charged shocks or something. Probably be cool. Can't wait for pics.

Just changed the front shocks for now. Took it outside and did a bit of testing in the rose garden. (Wife is gone, I can get away with it for now. ) Definitely made an improvement. Need to work on the rear now. I got the idea to run no springs while working on the Hustler. I figured that since I was blocking one oil passage in the shock piston that you could (in theory) leave both holes and just run a thicker oil. The weight of the chassis is enough to keep the rig "settled" (no need for a spring to "retract" the shocks) and the 1000 weight oil just slows suspension action. There is no bump and jump cycling...just slow, controlled movement. The actual whole axle droop is limited by a small strap at the center of the chassis, it's attached to the upper link. MUCH better. Now to do the rear (and finish up the wheels) and take it to the lake this weekend for more video. Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 03-05-2007 at 11:13 PM. |

11 5/8" It'll be closer to 10.5" when I'm done with it. *EDIT* Finished up the front end. Track width stands at 10.25" Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 03-05-2007 at 11:55 PM. |

Yeah, it looked WIIIIDDDDE. I had a guy ask what kind of axles were under my Super in the last video. Wasn't a fan of the GC under the diff combined with the wide track....the narrowed rear Revolvers did the trick. I had a chance to swap oil in the rear shocks tonight - feels much better. If the batteries were charged I'd take it out for a spin. Grrr... |

Worked on the socket to ya style front dig tonight. Jake had put a 14mm hex on the rear driveshaft but had no means of locking the rear axle. I just grabbed a 12 point 14mm socket out of the garage... Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 03-08-2007 at 10:19 PM. |

Eric, this one weighs 4lbs, 15 oz. RTR I edited my last post last night. While working on the truck I thought that simply attaching the 14mm socket to the rear half of the driveshaft would provide brake to the rear. That was after midnight and I was tired. When I made (and read) the post I then realized that it wouldn't work. Will have to make a unique setup to keep the socket in place on this one. I got rid of the 600 mAh 5 cell hump style RX pack that was on the rear axle and put a 1200 mAh Peak Racing Mini-T pack on the front suspension links. The RX pack placement is deceptive. When you raise the hood it's like you're putting the pack on the chassis. Reality is that it's on the front upper suspension link. Pics of the new setup. 10.25" wide now thanks to double-narrowed rear Revolvers. Still need to zip-tie the battery and servo cables to the suspension link and neaten up all the wiring. I have a question for ya'... Does that frame meet the 07 rules requirements? It always looked killer... but now it's amazing! |

I had to look up the specs on 2.2 tubers: -2.2 class tube chassis are allowed with the following restrictions. Chassis must be at least 8"long, 3"wide, and 3.75"tall, the roof must be raised from the main chassis to resemble a cockpit, and it must have solid hood, roof and sidepanels. Yup! 8.5" long, 3 7/8" tall, 3.75" wide. Once I get the suspension and driveline sorted out the frame will get attention. *EDIT* I attached a pic of what it looked like "Stock"...If you can call a custom tuber stock. Those batteries look pretty close to the right front tire. Are there any steering clearance issues?
