Default WK 4x4 QUESTIONS

Alright I got a WK a couple of weeks ago. Have been researching the Parts I need to convert to 4x4. A few questions I hope you all will answer. It looks like I can get most of the stuff I need. 1st question, What about the 5x6x29mm Gear Shaft? Is there one out there that will work from another rc. I know I can order online. But I can get most of the stuff at my LHS , would like to get everything at one time. 2nd Question about the DOGBONES Is there some out there the same size in DIA. that maybe I can cut down and square off the ends like the stock ones??? I am somewhat new to this stuff so please bare with me. My last question would be about the DIff gears (bevel Gear, Spider gears.) In the diagram It looks like all of these gears are in the diff case on the dogbone. If I want to lock up the axles, would I being locking these up so Why do I need them at all?? Might be a stupid question but whatever. Please help POSSIBLE 4x4 parts purchase tommorow then I can start building my crawler.

A few days overdue, but I'll try to answer your questions...

IF you are using the standard pinion and ring gears http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJYM3&P=7, then yes, you need that "gearshaft" from HPI. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPZX2&P=7 And I don't know of any others that will work.

IF you are using the HD gears http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJYM2&P=7, then you don't need that "gearshaft." I have yet to see how anyone has fit the stock shafts or Traxxas shafts onto that round shaft though.

Substitute dogbones... the problem is that the diameter has to be correct in the perfect locations, the ball ends needs to be correct, the diameter correct near the end of the axle housing for the bearing there (and a shoulder would be nice to hold that bearing in), diameter where it fits into the diff housing, and about the right size so it can be cut down with the flats to engage the diff internal gears. Good luck finding something to fit in ALL the right spots! Stock NMT dogbones are too small around everywhere. Would be nice if there were some CVD's out there, but I don't have any lying around that are close, and I'm not going to start buying them just to check if they can be modified.

Diff internal gears... well, you need something for the dogbone shaft to engage into. A common diff locking method is usually done by filling between the gears (and teeth) with JB weld. Without the gears, there's nothing to lock. Even JB weld isn't strong enough to hold against the flats on the dogbone. A spool would be nice, which would eliminate the gears AND the diff case.... but I don't know of any. If you find a spool to fit the NMT, NMT2, or RS4 3's, it'll fit the WK diff. Otherwise you are S.O.L.

Hope this wasn't too late.

Oh yeah, if you can't get WK center driveshafts, just get Maxx shafts, they are EXACTLY the same, and cut them to length. Or get Revo shafts which are considerably bigger but do fit.
